You know what I'd really really love? An America primer of some sort. Like, just a primer covering some stuff that comes up in fanfic that is Very American, and that I Do Not Get At All. I want it to cover some cities [description of Chicago/Las Vegas/LA], some eating places [In-N-Out? Applebees? Taco something or other?], more foodstuff brand info

I mean, I generally get the gist of what something is from how it's in the story, but some things are just total mysteries and google-ing can only tell you so much. ;)

Ah yes, HP. I think part of what killed my enthusiasm was my frustration with Americanisms. But, I do get annoyed at things pretty easy. I once read a Panic story by an English person and they were using words like 'mum' and 'trainers' and that really pissed me off too. And it was an AU roadtrip story, which could have really used some Americanisms. ;)

An American Primer would be awesome. What are poptarts and why are they the only food available on tour? Is a sandwich a sandwich, or a sub? Or anly a sub at Subway? All these things confuse us no Yanks.

Oh, ok, we had poptarts in England, but you can't get them here. :(

They're pretty weird, hard sweet pastry bases, smaller than a slice of bread, with a layer of jam-ish sauce [in different flavours] on the top, then a layer of hard icing. You can eat them as they come, but better toasted [in a toaster]. Here, pic.

I think a sub is different to a sandwich in that a sub is on long roll, and not only from Subway.

But yeah, SO CONFUSING! ;)

i am lucky to have someone on tap (or on yim at any rate) to go 'wtf does xyz meeeean???' but still it would be nice to be able to just look it up, especially when there are time zone issues!
