Concrit.

For the writers on my flist, what do you consider concrit to be? Where do you draw the line form a mean comment to something that's helpful? Also, do you welcome concrit and actually get it?

This isn't for anything in particular, I'm just curious. ;)

wonderings, thoughts on stuff

I welcome concrit, though I rarely get it. What I more often receive is a version of 'I like story type A, you write B, you should write A ( ... )

I have to say, I'm bad a concrit because I usually read fic and either love it or hate. If a fic has enough that I'd criticise, I'll back down and not comment.

Where is the romance? Draco took Harry out for lunch, several times, didn't he? What more do they want? ;D

SMEX! Bryoneybrynn has cheekily suggested I auction a sex scene in my HP10K fic to see what people would pay for it. Alas, knowing my skill with the genre, I have told her that unless the winner was an aficionado of the Literary Review's Bad Sex Award, it would be worth about 20p for Oxfam.

Huh. Yeah, I didn't even think of that. Whoa. But it felt like it ended in a good place, it didn't need it. Anyway, sometimes you really don't want to read smut. [Not often, but you know. ;D]

Ahaha! Ah, of course, everyone knows that sex sells. ;)

I've never got a really mean comment, because I regard that as something that's personally offensive. But people have raked my writing over the coals a good few times. Sometimes I've had to go away and cry/steam over it before I could come back and discuss it in a rational manner, but I did.

I do welcome concrit, and I do get it. It's sadly lacking in bandom, though.

No mean comments is good! See, I don't get because to me, you're a brilliant writer! Better than some published authors, definitely. :)

Hm, concrit is hard because there such a fine line in it. It scares me. ;)

I certainly don't see it that way, which helps in stomaching said comments with grace and equilibrium. :D

I don't see that myself. I think where the wank comes in is where people take things personally - they're too invested in the characters or the way things should play out in their head, and they can't let it go. Concrit should come from a place of detachment. That's my prob in giving it - I get so detached when I don't like something that I just leave it behind.

I always think it's good to get invested in the characters, but I guess not so to the point that your expectations are too high and you want something different to what the author wants.

Hmmm, what do I consider concrit to be. Well, as difficult as it may be to gauge someone else's intentions, for me it's sort of that I can tell if they're saying something critical to actually improve my writing, rather than saying something critical just to tear me down. I don't get it at all in this fandom, which is actually something that bothers me a little, but that's a different rant ( ... )

Try a better pairing? Oh gawd, with people like that you just have to take a step back and think good thoughts. ;) Otherwise I'd be very tempted to do bad things. It boggles my mind sometimes, how ridiculously stupid people can be. :\
