Only four people read this journal, but what the heck! Sharing, saying etc. (cadged from samantharichter"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

Well, I'm extremely /un/comfortable seeing men (or indeed women) holding guns in reality. And since we're about to head to the airport to pick somebody up (not in /that/ sense!), I'm sure I'll see exactly that, since the airport is a place where Bad Things Happen. Not that I'm stressing about that part at all...
But I have to say, reading that statement, my mind went to the world of homoerotic action films with men holding both hands and guns (see TFAFT et al.), and I giggled. Not the proper reaction, sorry.
Thankfully managed to avoid seeing any armed police at the airport... Though was still on edge!
Aww... well, i know it doesn't compare to magic shoes, but I got an email saying that my Dell monitor that was supposed to arrive this week wouldn't be coming until the middle of June! Cue phonecalls to india... They said it might come before then, but couldn't promise. Bad Dell!
Have had lots of pear cider in the pub and I am a wee bit merry... x
Except in movies and TV shows anyone holding guns is generally a very bad thing! But I do get the point of the quote, since I actually know people who would watch a movie that involved people being blown up, rather than something involving any same sex kissing. I even (scarily) know people who want to learn how to shoot, and intend to own a gun at somepoint in their lives, but would 'rather not see gay men kissing'. All of which is a wee bit worrying.
Sometimes in movies the same-sex kissing is so badly handled I find it a bit uncomfortable, I must say. (If only it were all so well done as Jack & Ianto...) It's getting better, though. And don't get me started on the whole assumption that the only two options for human sexuality are straight or gay.
But it is pretty depressing. On the other hand, there are quite a few people who would rather see a film in which people are blown up rather than one in which anyone is kissing.

Glad to be one of the final four... x
