Very enjoyable eps - not top-notch, but sooo much better than Series 4. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year now.
My only quibble is that Pierce's absence (death) was virtually ignored, which made me sad.
Sure, Chevy Chase was a complete dick, but Pierce had some redeeming features and it seemed OOC for his friends not to have acknowledged him. I mean, look at the send-off Starburns got...
Guess I'll have to be happy with the hologram scene :-)
I'm not at all certain Pierce died (that's why I put 'death' in parentheses), but I thought it was suggested, if not implied.
- We know Chevy Chase has permanently left the show. - In the repilot - and sorry, I can't remember the exact wording - there was a sad comment about someone being absent from the study table. Then someone else said, yes, it's not the same without Magnitude. I took that as a meta wink to Pierce's departure, accompanid by the not-so-subtle implication that no one (on the show?) really regrets it. - Otherwise, there are no comments on Pierce's absence. Something has happened to Pierce between the end of last season and this. Of course it could be almost anything - Pierce has finally left Greendale for good, he's on a world cruise - but the fact that no one mentions him at all suggests that they don't expect him back
( ... )
I know Pierce graduated as well, but that was it. I also did wonder even at the time of Troy's quick "Magnitude" wasn't an in-universe way of avoiding saying "Pierce."
I should look this up. I hope Dan just keeps it unresolved, though, because I have a feeling we won't like the "explanation" he comes up with.
