JAMES POTTER: 30 June, 1978

May 18, 2006 17:26

Handed to Rabastan, who was cornered on his way back to the dungeons and told to make sure Regulus got it.

Regulus,

I don't suppose I'll get chance to speak to you before leaving on the train tomorrow. I haven't seen much of you at all lately. I suppose that's understandable.
I don't know... )

There. Message delivered. Done being your errand boy.

*licks his lips, tilting his head to one side*
So, what did you say to him then? I didn't read it. *mutters* couldn’t get it open.

You weren't being my errand boy, you were doing me a favour - there's a difference.

*shrugs*
This and that. Just tying up a few loose ends.

It didn't feel like a favour. A favour implies I could ask something back from you, and favour don't have to be forced on people while they're walking back to their dorm.

*nods slowly, pushing a strand of hair behind his ear*
Oh. Well, that's...good. I guess.

You can ask for something back: something of the same level as being asked to take a small parchment with you where you were going and handing it over to the person in the same room.

*grins*
Or you could have said no.

*hesitates*
Did he read it?

*watches James for a moment, a serious look on his face*

Nice weather, don't you think?

*nods with a grin*
Fantastic. Well, about as fantastic as you get in the highlands. How's life pre-conception?

*shrugs, smirks*

Wonderful. Much like life in one's sixth year, I find.

*frowns, bewildered*

Erm, how so? Impending exams and pressure from your parents to think about careers?

*clings to James/Reg and throws them to their seaside cafe instead*

*pauses as she sees James*
Well, I think there were days during the last seven years that I didn't think this day could come quickly enough.

*grins easily*
*half-bows*

The feeling's mutual, Professor. Do I sense a 'but'? Or is that wishful thinking?

*chuckles*
Life will be exceedingly... peaceful around here without you lot.
*sobers a bit*
Perhaps it will be a good respite from the rest of this.

*smiles crookedly*

Well, we won't be gone too long. I'll be back for the Headmaster when he calls, and Sirius will no doubt be in your office 24/7.

Oh goodness, I'm totally not crying or anything. No. Nothing to see here. It wasn't the blacked out bits that did me in. Because I'm not crying. *loves far, far too much for words* ♥

*finds James just before breakfast the next morning and hisses at him as he passes, his voice only wavering slightly*
Next time you have something to say, try saying it to my face instead of getting my friends to do your dirty work.

*loves beyond words* I do hate that James has to be such a stupid bastard.

*catches him by the shoulder, letting go of him immediately once he's got him to stop*

*flounders for words*
Look, I didn't want to leave without saying anything and you've been avoiding me. What else was I meant to do?

*clings and sniffles and loves some more* I don't mind so much, because to me he's always a seaside cafe-owning stupid bastard. :)

*flinches at his touch, almost going for his wand, but doesn't*
*coolly*
And what were you trying to say, exactly?

Reply

stagboy May 18 2006, 18:48:53 UTC
Yeah. He'd better be. Silly boy.

*takes a step back, casting about for words*
*flushes, looking slightly awkward, but gives up*
Well, I meant... just that... I hoped we could still be friends. Or at least, civil to one another.

Is it bad that I'm as impressed by your cleverness as I am moved by the letter?
