It may sounds odd, but this made me think about the Hamelin’s Piper…. I read “King Rat” by China Miéville some years ago; it is a peculiar adaptation of the myth where drum 'n' bass sounds almost define London.
Isn't it great? The whole album is worth a listen.
I'd heard so much about Miéville and so I tried to read one of his books - Perdito Street - but I couldn't get into it. He's one of those authors I keep meaning to "try again" but I never manage - too many other books on my wish list!
I love Perdido Street Station, for me this is probably his best book. It is one of the few five stars I have on my list. Maybe you should give the audiobook a try, it’s always easier.
