On a more optimistic note, here's a lovely new french band. Their sound is very subtle and gentle - give it a go, perhaps even a few listens. Very summery somehow, but not in the Ibiza sort of way:

sorry, i couldn't make it past the first 15 seconds. cutesy high-pitched frenchiness rubs me the wrong way

though (curiously enough), i do like mathieu boogaerts

Ohh... Mathieu Boogaerts sounds very similar to them. Hmm, very nice!
