If it cheers you up at all the mid-range UN growth estimates show the world population not reaching 9 billion until about 2050 and levelling off around 10 billion... North America, Europe, Oceania and Latin America aren't projected to have much population growth at all. If their middle range estimates are correct then the fastest days of population growth are already in the past.

Hmmm yes but you have populations of developing nations getting richer, more wealth will lead to more use of resources, which is just as bad if not worse than more pple on the planet.

I saw the other day an add on CNN for a company striving to turn sea water into drinkable water, which I presume would be used not only for humans but for agriculture too. I think that's where one of the main problems is going to lie - people fighting for resources and spilling into countries that have less problems than their own. It's hard to guess though - chicken flu could come back in some new unstoppable way and cut the population down... who knows.

For all it's worth, you are all invited to hole up here in my brasilian farm and start a commune with me!

I think it is a mistake to just assume we will just invent our way out of this problem.

Civilizations have risen and fallen before, it would be unwise to assume that same wouldn't happen again.

It will definitely happen again. We can't go on like this.
