My ex-boss Nigel, the one I had an all-consuming crush on for about 3 years, once submitted a joke research proposal when he was training as a mental health nurse proposing to investigate the relationship between trouser length and mental health status. E.g. that men with too short trousers are all barking mad essentially :-D
