Night of the Glowing Undead

I think it's safe to say that my first trip to Slimelight was a success. What I thought would be a club filled with attitude and unfriendliness turned out to be a darker, campier version of Popstarz when it was housed at The Scala. I danced to The Cure's "Killing an Arab", Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" (EBM version) and a whole bunch of ( Read more... )

golden lights, certain people i know, interesting drug, death of a disco dancer, london, found found found, labyrinths, now my heart is full

Formerly, Slimelight didn't sell alcohol and everyone could bring their own. Then in the late 90s, there was some palaver with the council (can't quite remember what it was now) and they were forced to open a bar to keep with licensing conditions. Officially, you are not allowed to take your own alcohol, but everyone turns a blind eye if you do.

Really wish I could have gone. Sodding illness!!!

Lousy! There was a hailstorm, Orient had a man sent off and proceeded to lose 0-3! That is the last time I get out of my death bed for that crappy team!!

Why not support Manchester United? They seem to win quite a lot.

T'was a pretty good night! I didn't stay long past after you left though as I was feeling decidedly drunk by about 4am - getting old or something!

Yeah, I noticed your 5am post - not much later than when I arrived home. Yup, it was a pretty good job; I'll definitely be up for any future excursions.

I didn't even remember making that post - I initially thought I'd had my account hacked.

Glad you had a good time :) The stormtrooper was random but became a conversation point for lots of people - he must have suffered in the 'heat' (although lots of people were cold inside the club for some reason)! There were indeed several funkily dressed and attractive girls (unlike the dire crowds in the alt-bar crawl across Camden the previous night; and mentalists are always fun ;D) and clearly you need to go again!

It was very chilly in the corridors, and especially downstairs. Did you have any luck with the funkily dressed ladies? ;-)

Also, did you manage to stay until 7.30? I think next time I need to work a bit harder and last the run.

Haha, I try (ironically perhaps) to avoid hooking up with people in Slimelight. But not because they're insane -- I always go there with groups of friends so I just end up staying within those crowds.

I normally stay until 7.30. This time we stayed until 6.30 -- at that point Verity & co had to leave (unusually early for them), after which I ran into Tom who needed to rapidly pass out so we hit the road. If you're not on drugs or coffee the trick is just to stay with a hardcore group who are gonna stick it out. Which in my case is usually the cybers on the top floor :D

Oh yeah, now I remember the coffee you mentioned. I'd like to stay one day until it's served, and see whether it's any good.

They have a "no photography" rule, apparently.

Hehe, you're not supposed to bring your own alcohol in either...

I found some videos on YouTube later, of people on the dancefloor, so the rules are clearly there to be broken...
