"By issue #25 this will become a Conan parody."

I haven't actually read comics in...foreversies. It's been a couple of months, at least. Therefore, I also haven't been really following When Fangirls Attack. But if there's anything that'll catch my eye when scanning their feed, it's two words: "Dave Sim."

Davey Poo-Poo is hawking a new comic called Glamourpuss. I, for one, am super-excited. I ( Read more... )

Heh. I did get the Weepies. Within a half an hour of opening it Christmas morning, Graham and Heather had opened it and were ripping it.

Though, to be fair, you were on top of the Weepies (::counts it::) before I was. The only reason I know about them is because I recognized Deb Talan's voice from the Macy's commercial.

That said, if you haven't checked out Deb Talan's solo stuff, do so immediately. "Ashes On Your Eyes" and "Saturn's Light" off of A Bird Flies Out are just too good ( ... )

I def have some dar williams already after hearing it played in barnes and nobles 2 years ago. I just had to find christians and the pagans. Total chick music and my parents rip me for it everytime I play it when they are in the car.

naama has an album on Itunes called living room with 11 songs on it from 2004. there is 1 review

"Cool, my name is naama" wiht a 1 star rating. It isnt bad. I like "sweeter than wine"

Too bad you've pre-judged the book. I've read an advance of the first issue, and it's really good. Lots of history about classic noir comics, intertwined with genuinely funny (and sarcastic) humor.

Pre-judging a product is part of being a consumer. If I only have a limited budget set to purchase any one type of thing (say, comics), I use past experiences with authors, artists, and publishers alongside reviews and what the content is (supposed) to be about.

Sim is all three of those. I've read the dude's stuff before and was extra unimpressed. I think his art runs from "meh" to "great." The book's (apparently) about fashion kind of, the website is as informative as the original Cloverfield teasers. Reviews by random people on the interwubble mean next to nothing to me (reviews from friends & people I respect are something else).

Combine that with not having purchased comics in a good while and "lots of history about classic noir comics" sounding like SNOO-zers, I will not be going out of my way to read it unless someone hands me a copy and says, "No, seriously: Put this in your eyes. I loved this book so hard that it made me cry angel piss."

"it's obvious he hates women"

How so?

"It's likely to be either full of misogynistic tripe"

Why?

To be fair, it's not LIKELY to be full of misogynist tripe. I may have gotten excited there.

However, which of the quotes involving women being voids sucking the light of men would you like? Or the fact that he believes women just want to be raped by buff, rich doctors? Perhaps he admits that the only time he's ever talked to a woman without the desire to sleep with her was when he was researching Mothers and Daughters? I could look up more (that's just top of the head stuff), but that'd require me re-reading some truly heinous essays - and I don't feel the need to do that for strangers on the interwubble.

Most of the feces placed in his essays makes him just a sexist - some of it, though, makes him a full on misogynist and/or moron.
