She just never realized that she’d have to mean it metaphorically.
Oh, ouch. That line is just perfect.
And, man... I wasn't sure how easily I could convince myself that she could and would have pulled off that act that consistently... But I've decided that I'm quite willing to accept the whole thing wholeheartedly just because it gets me to that ending. That is exactly what should happen. Especially her beating him up. And, man, they are so very, very right for each other. :)
Well honestly, we didn't see her for 365 days of that year - she probably did slip up more than once ... and man, the things she would have done later to cover it up must have been humiliating. Grah. The Companions, as far as I'm concerned, got the short end of the stick in this episode.
And yes, they are perfect for one another, aren't they? ...crazy kids. *wince* Hee.
Space Jesus was something I got from a good friend of mine, dealing with an entirely different fandom. But after watching DT explode in a burst of bright light to come back to life and forgive the Master ... yeah. All hail the new Space Jesus.
Ooo, I love how you fill in the gaps and explain Lucy's out-of-character behaviour during the finale. It makes me sad to think there's only one more chapter yet, but giddy to know this isn't the end for my favourite couple.
Thank you!! - but this isn't the last chapter. This is just the last chapter I'm writing Right Now. I'm coming back! I just have to finish this monster 4400 fanfic I was working on before, not to mention get back to my book.
But I shall return, and you will see after I finish part 7...
Fabulous job on this. I like that you went with "canon" (bah), but twisted it. I really wasn't sure I could buy the whole "Oh, Lucy's just acting blank and empty" scenario, but you've written it very well. Kudos!
And I love love looove how you have her turn the jealousy around on him in the end. I've got a soft spot for the jealousy bits. :D
Well, since the OTHER story I had in mind for this was basically re-writing the entire episode if RTD didn't do something workable with my universe, I was pleasantly surprised. I know, I know - the canon was like weeeeeh, crack! However, he left it so open-ended that it was easy to pick up the threads of my previous story, and weave them in.
It's all because of Alexandra Moen. That look she gave him during the 'whirlpool' speech was priceless - sorrow, anger, repression. Perfect. That actress is amazing.
