Surprising Holmes

It is very difficult to surprise Holmes. Although he knows little of social grace, of propriety, of the emotional responses of others towards him, he can usually deduce how others will behave with what others would consider almost uncanny accuracy. It is rare for complete strangers to shock him; for I, his closest, perhaps his only friend, to astonish him is almost unheard of.

So perhaps it is the look of wonderment on his face, that rare, precious look, that makes this moment of kissing him for the first time feel quite so delightful.
