"I'm hungry," Sammy whines, wrapping himself around Dean's legs, and Dean wishes he could scream and cry but he has to find something for Sammy to eat, has to bathe him, has to put him to bed, has to stay awake until Dad comes back, and he just wants to throw a tantrum himself - but he's the older brother, and he can't.

Dean was sitting at the little table in the corner of the motel room, meticulously cleaning Dad's pearl-handled Colt. "What is it, Sammy?"
"Dean!"
"That's my name."
"Look. Dean!"
Dean finally lifted his head. Sam held up the piece of paper he'd been scribbling on for over an hour. There, in the center of it, was Dean's name written in shaky block capitals. Dean slid off the chair and trotted over to his brother, sank down on the couch beside him to pull him into a one-armed hug.
"Way to go, Sammy."
"Love you, Dean."
