Not 100% happy with this, but this prompt *instantly* made me think of him so I had to try. Thanks!

He’d been a certain brand of freak before the Yeerks had crashed into his life, but being a shy kid from a bad home hadn’t made him uniquely unusual in and of itself in the overcrowded halls of his school.

Being the only boy in existence willingly trapped in the body of a hawk and hiding from human society after his girlfriend died fighting aliens, however? That caught the attention of people around the world-rarely in a good way. (He wasn’t Marco, there was nothing healing about the spotlight for him.)

Mostly he wishes Rachel had taken him with her.

I'm sorry to be nitpicky, but "uniquely unusual" is a tautology.
