For a smart kid (brilliant; genius, actually, not that he has to be told) Spencer can do some really dumb things when he needs to escape. Dumb like a needle in his vein. Dumb like a random hookup in a bar. (A profiler. Going home with a stranger.

"You know better than that," he's told the boy, gravel in his voice. Fingers curled in the sweaty mop of Spencer's hair.

"I know- I know what to look for," Spencer's answered, breathy and shaking.

"You don't go looking to them for what I can give you, doc. You hear me?"

"I don't... Not- Not this...")

Maybe the smartest thing Spencer's ever done was tell Jethro what he'd been doing back then. What he needed to stop. What he needs, to keep going sometimes; sometimes just to remind himself that he can. That there's someone safe and familiar in his life who cares about him, who will do this for him without judging and without making his pain worse

So many layers to this that I had to read it a couple of times. Nice to see non-sexual D/s relationship explored but also love that Spencer knows Gibbs will give him what he needs. I like that Gibbs might want more if Spencer would allow himself to want that to but that there's no pressure to make it more. Thank you very much for this fill.
