It's the last line. All of it makes me want to wrap little Harry up in hugs, but that last line kills any hope that anything could help at all. Ouchy good :)

Thanks! And yeah, there were many chances for things to be changed, but at this point, they've pretty much all passed.

This is an example of AUs getting it right. Well, more like getting AUs right. I've seen really crappy examples of AUs, but this is really good. What a lovely, chilling read.

Wow, that's harsh, and a little bit beautiful. I could totally have seen that happening if he hadn't been strong enuf.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Every time I look too closely at the workings of the wizarding world it looks like a dystopia even without Voldemort, and the real magic is that Harry grows up to be as well socialized as he does.
