FAQ@DW The rules are blatantly ripped off from comics_bigbang on livejournal.com. Kudoes to the mods there!
Note: The rules aren't exhaustive, and I'm willing to be flexible.
Comics Big Bang? Huh what?
The goal of Comics Big Bang
is to write a minimum 10,000 word comic book fanfic. Those who
complete their fics on time will receive a complementary fanwork created
especially for the fic.
When you say comics, you mean…?
…fic
based on DC and Marvel comic books and related properties. Fic in the
Vertigo and Wildstorm universes is totally acceptable; so is fic based
on the movies or TV shows. Want to write 10,000 words about the old
Kirk Alyn serials? Go for it!
So it just has to be about comics?
Yep!
It can be het, slash, or gen. It can be an AU. It can be a
crossover with another comic or another fandom entirely (but it does
have to focus on comics - please don’t write an epic Luke/Chewbacca
story where Superman shows up for 500 words and then disappears. Well,
no, please write that story, because it would be hilarious, but
not for this Big Bang). It can be as chaste or as porntastic as you
want, as long as you apply all the appropriate ratings G-NC17 and
warnings (See below). It just has to be about comics.
Can it be longer than 10,000 words?
Of course! It can be as long as you want. 10,000 is the bare minimum.
Can I cowrite with someone?
Yes, but the fic still has to be at least 10,000 words long.
Do I have to wait until signups are over to start writing?
Nope, you can get cracking right away!
Can I tell my artist what I want?
You
can suggest scenes you’d especially like, but the final art is up to
the artist. On the other hand, the artist should create specifically
for the story - if it’s about Captain America and Iron Man, don’t draw
Batman. Nobody be a jerk!
Do I need a beta?
Stories
should at least be spelling and grammar checked. As it's a multifandom
challenge, you're encouraged to bring your own beta.
I’m done! It’s a masterpiece! Now what?
You
and your artist will choose a posting date, and you and your artist
can coordinate whether the artist will post to their own journal, or
give you the art to post at yours. You can post it to your own journal or
any place for archiving, and then link to it here. You have to keep it
open for viewing.
I am an artist! What kind of media can I use?
Whatever
you want! Paint it, Photoshop it, build it out of gum wrappers. Just
make it a legit piece. Your author spent three months writing at
least 10,000 words, don’t just doodle something on a napkin and call it
a day.
Any fanmix submitted must have a minimum of ten songs. Any video submitted must be over 30 seconds in length.
What if I have to drop out?
Life
happens. We understand. If you have to drop out, we'll have a static
drop out post for this. This goes double for artists, so that we can
find a pinch hitter for you.
ETA: What kind of warnings are needed?
As we'll have an AO3 collection later, we ask you to use standard AO3
warning when needed: Rape/Non-Con, Underage (one or both of the parties
having sex is under 16), Graphic Descriptions of Violence, and Major
Character Death. If none of these apply, you should label your fanwork
as "No Warning Apply." If you choose not to warn, you MUST label your fanwork "Choose not to warn."
