Graphic Novel - Testing idea

An idea that came up a week ago was changing how I'll be doing two graphic novels for my Masters in Fine Art. One graphic novel is autobiographical and includes five trips I've taken in my life (showing how things have changed in my life over a period of time). As I recall, the original Tin Tin and Asterix pages appeared as two full pages per magazine release, which were then collected. That was the pattern for the majority of Francophone comics for decades.

Really? That doesn't match up with the samples I've seen. But those could have been the exception to the rule. But in any case the vast majority have a horizontal slip in panel rows about 50% down the page...

I'm not arguing with your plan - it's sound reasoning.

Historically, though, Francophone comics from that era go all over the place, layout-wise. And remember that almost all of the Tin Tin pieces were redrawn in the mid-50s to clean up a lot of the artwork.

Hmm, that I hadn't considered. It may be that doing a whole page is more flexible in any case, for reasons of consistency and layout.

I'll be damned. I was just scanning some pages from Gil Jordan and you're right - those strips were half pages.

That's OK. I've committed to a web host and a format, and really in the long run it's less messy for me to do a full page on both web and paper versions.
