Friday the 13th, with pumpkin soup.

As a subject of the Netherlands, I'm regularly exposed to pulp television channels like RTL4 and SBS6 (just insert YLCN, a.k.a. Your Local Crap Network here, if you don't know them). By way of antidote, I love the BBC. However, the announcement of "the fascinating history of women in horticulture" on BBC2 had me diving for the remote just now. I ( Read more... )

I don't watch the BBC channels, unless Family Guy, The Mighty Boosh or American Dad is on (BBC Three). I think I probably watch Channel 4 and a channel called Dave more.

I've only had to slaughter a pumpkin once, I too seriously feared losing a couple of fingers!!

Did you manage to sleep on the train? Totally sucks about your lack of sleep, I've been getting sleep deprivation symptoms. =( Gonna have an early night tonight!

Glad all was well in the end though! =D

I love the BBC, probably because I just want to watch British tv :-)
I was quite surprised how well I took the 3-hour night - I didn't even fall asleep at inappropriate moments...

Linda's not so exciting anymore when you've seen her on tv every bloody day for the last 20 years... that must be it.

Random sidenote: I was thinking about getting an icon about the constant railway company failings... I hear you on being frustrated about that. Delayed trains are one of the things I can take for granted every day in my life. The only variety is the "reason of the day". ;)

Well I must say it's usually not too bad over here, but somehow, the delays seem to cluster. So, not just one every month, but nothing for 8 weeks and then 10 in the space of a week, or something. Or, NEVER when you're very much on time, and ALWAYS when you're already late (well, at least when I'm already late and the train breaks down I have a better excuse than "I overslept" - but still.)
A long time ago, I used to live a 3 minute walk away from work. As they say: you don't know what you got till it's gone...

Trains suck. Except when they work, obviously. :P

Also, pumpkin soup... I should totally try that. :D

Um. "The fascinating history of women in horticulture"? Is that like... that lady they mentioned on QI who discovered 150 different species of wasps in her back yard or something? :P

Trains suck indeed. I've had bad luck last week. I like 'm when they run on time, though. People always wonder how it is I read so much while I'm so busy - but I always have an hour's reading time, every day, on the train!
Pumpkin soup is the best. Wanna recipe?
And... the fascinating history of women in horticulture appeared to be the subject of an entire BBC documentary. I didn't stick around to find out, though. The BBC is like trains: mostly great, with a few huge fuckups.

That's a phrase I must remember. :P

Also, pumpkin soup recipe, yay! It doesn't include setting the kitchen on fire, does it? :P

Ackshully, there's this bit while cooking pumpkin soup when you take a box of matches and you go and set - no, hang on, that's pea soup.

No, the pumpkin soup is kitchenfirefree. I'll send you te recipe!

BTW: you know what it's called when ALL the trains on one day (or in one week) fuck up, don't you? (Or at least, what I call it...?)
