Olympic Gold!

Sven Kramer did it - he just won his first Olympic Gold Medal in the men's 5,000 meters speed skating. First I nearly died (the tension!) and then I cried.  Whoo! Now onto the 10,000 meters and the team pursuit.

Congrats to the Dutch team and their fans!

The American coverage did a piece on how popular speed skating is in The Netherlands; I loved seeing all that orange.

Indeed, I think that after football (soccer) it's the most popular sport over here. And one we're good at, at an international level, which is always nice to see. For us, the entire Winter Olympics are about speed skating! (But well, I watch all the other stuff, too...)
