LJ Idol, season 6, week 13, Intersection: “I Don’t Care About Apathy”...

Have you heard that television rots kids' brains? Apparently that it's the reason they have no imagination any more, or why they turn into killers, because they see too much violence, or why they're all sexual deviants, because there's so much sex on TV. Maybe I should care how much TV my three year old watches, but I don't ( Read more... )

Oh, yeah, I already had most of this planned out, and would have considered doing this one last week if I hadn't had that great article. And I've got an idea for Trip Trapping next week if we do this again ;)

Thanks for the compliments, by the way. And yes, I love having stuff in early. I'm going away for the weekend, so I actually didn't have much time to write something anyway ;)

My theory is that Gary may keep doing this until all of us have done all 5? I don't know. He's always changing things:) I may as well start thinking of how to do the other 2 topics I have left, I guess.

My kids are very creative and they still play and engage with people but yes, we watch more than 1/2 hour of TV a day which HORRIFIES my parents (I grew up with no TV at all for years.)

I love the story about the TP roll:)

I'm like you, worried people will find stories of my 3 kids boring but I've done them a little more often this Idol season and (so far) it's gone ok.

How old is your son? He sounds like a great kid:)

I thought the same thing about having us do all of the topics too! So I am always thinking of ideas for the others, just in case you know...

At least you're not getting him drunk too. ;)

Aww, that's such a gorgeous story! TV aids imagination, it doesn't hinder it. It's no worse than books - both mediums tell stories, just in different ways.

Man, that is nuts. I am much more restrictive where alcohol is concerned! (ie I don't give it to my son AT ALL!)

Exactly. And thank you!

Hmm, it could be that other people forget. I hadn't thought about it like that! But how can they ignore their kids completely like that? The kid is still going to likely want to play and create things, and want to engage their parent(s). At least mine does!

Does TV really stifle kids' creativity any more than schools do?

haha, I think it might depend on the school. Some schools do focus on developing that creativity. At least where I was from!

This really made me smile. I think it is great that your son likes TV but also has such a wonderful imagination.
