And we're back again.
I know I don't usually do any sort of into about my work, but I'm gonna. Mainly because there is a reason but I'll shut up about why I'm talking and just talk. This particular go around I used a hell of a lot of Gradient Maps, they are my newest kick. Partially to add a natural tone as a base but it also allowes you to see just the range of dark & light and helps you play with it. So yeah, there you go. Also, as an aside--my explinations are once more CRACKTASTIC and I'm sorry for that...kinda...not really...not at all. Feel free to skip, there won't be a pop quiz...

Smooth - When I was looking for images, this one as well as another jumped out at me. There is a great deal of skin in the scene this is from, and Cara (Tabrett Bethell) is just gorgeous.
Texture #1 - I loved this outfit of Annalina, the Prelate of the Sisters of Light, and the shot is just so epic and gorgeous. As Prelate of the Sisters of light, I wanted to include a sort of eminating light but keep her dress and headpiece (which is AWESOME) the largest bright focus. Yes, this could have been used for light, but at the time I had an icon already filled--but I hated it so it's included in the alts.
Lyrics (I Look To You) - The line "I wanna change the future as I look into your eyes" stuck with me. Kahlan, as a confessor does change people's futures and for those of you who are unfamiliar with LotS, needs only to hold your eye sight while holding a firm grip on your skin. Getting decent quality images of her 'mid-confessing' is difficult but I thought it worked so well so I finally managed to find one. I wanted to show off the power that being confessed has through color and texture, and I hope I did.
Shape - This is the last one I made I think. Not too much to say, aside from the fact that the actual textures used is the album cover of Gotye's album Making Mirrors, in different scales.
Painted - This is not what I had in mind at all for painted. It was slap dash and I was running on fumes for inspiration at the time. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but I will say I like how it sort of fans around his face.
Black and white - Okay, so it's more cream and black, so shoot me. I love Cara, I think she's one of the most complex characters and her relationship with Leo KILLS ME. She is pragmatic and goal oriented, there are reasons behind everything but Leo sort of short circuts her. She doesn't know what to do with him but she clearly wants to do a whole lot of something. He is neither black nor white to her--if that makes ANY sense.
Filter - JENNSEN IS STUNNING. I found this cap of her in motion that I LOVED and thought with some filtering and shrinking it'll clear up. Not quite. So instead of trying to make it clear and crisp I went the other way, blurring, graining and filtering the shit out of it.
Grain - This is one of those happy accidents that will NEVER OCCUR AGAIN. I love Cara's relationship with Kahlan, again, she does not know how to show how she feels and the scene were they talk is just PERFECTION but it's dark as all hell. I tried coloring it but I just got more frustrated so I went the other way. Gradient Map that bitch! There is something very raw about Cara hugging Kahlan, about that entire scene and some how I ended up with this. This is one of my personal favorites.
Lyrics/song - Cara and Leo, again, I know. DEAL. Anyway, I fucking love this song. And it fits them so well. Now, before you all get all up in arms saying that the song is about a bitter break up and stuff, calm down and let me explain. I don't think of it as Leo VS. Cara, but Leo & Cara VS Fate/the world whatever you want. They met once and he was taken away from her before they were really given a shot. Then in an alternate reality, Cara is given a chance to have real relationships and they come so close to having it then fate shits on them. So the line "Now you're just somebody that I used to know" just fits.
Blend - I take it back. This was the last one I did. I loved the image when they were happy and married together. It is the only one we get and although it gets shat on (seeing a theme?) I still love it.
Monochrome - DARKEN RAHL. I wanted to use the symbol of his rule, as well as the colors since he pretty much ALWAYS wears them.
Color - SHIT NIKKI. I fucking love the Sisters of Darkness & Light's costumes. They are gorgeous. That aside, something about this particular cap called out to me and despite my trying to get away, made me it's bitch...
Gradient - CONFESSED KAHLAN IS A BAMF. I used lots of actual gradients on it, but if you look close I also did a duplicate of it in a different color. DOUBLE GRADIENT kinda BOOM.
Teture #2- In most of the images of Richard I like he just wasn't being very cooperative with coloring. So I'd add textures. LOTS OF TEXTURES. But then I added the top one and the others become much more subtle--but the last one would not work with out the repatition of the tree one.
Song (Bellyful by Boy in the Static) - These particular lyrics struck me for this one, "The fate of the universe, a bellyfull end. Floating away, slumped in a grave, floating away. Straight paths, neutral, engraved by the gods." Yep.
Grunge - I made this and didn't know what to use it as, so I kept adding more textures until it hit me. Nothing all that deep here.
Rotate - BATTLE CARA. That's it. I like this icon, but it's not what I wanted at all. The battle scenes in this show are awesome and the women look so marvelous fighting, their movements so fluid and I wanted to show that, but ended up with this. Don't know how.
Blur - Again, the cap lead me on this one. I'm still not sure how I feel about it but, meh.
Text - CARA. There is so much more to her than meets the eye and she will only justify her actions to a select few. She has her reasons for the way she is but does not dwell on them. I just love how she works with so many different colorings.
Texture #3 - I found this cap and I fucking loved it. I wanted to keep the cyan coloring and well, that's all I got.
