Summary:
Everyone in the Hey! Say! JUMP fandom was shaken when Arioka Daiki started to go on cam with a flashy earring on his left ear. Few speculations were made not knowing that it's all because of one person why he resorted into wearing that accessory which gave him a very manly change of image. This is a fan fiction created based on his controversial earring. I repeat… just a fan fiction. If there's any truth to this (w/c would really be coincidental), the author really can't say.
Word Count: 2260 words.
A/N: CRAP! This is a major EPIC failure. Haiz.. I think the plot is super cliche. GOMEN NASAI Arioka-kun! WAH! I just can't think of any other decent plot anymore... I am losing my FLUFF bone since classes will start 5 days from now... WAAH!
So, standard disclaimers applied here. Sorry for everything you won't like. Please enjoy.

Daiki smiled seeing his reflection in front of the mirror.
'Splendid.'
"Narcisst."
He heard the comment and the smile turned into frown. "Shut up Niichan!"
And his brother, Daisuke, laughed while lying on his own bed.
"Get out of my room Niichan!" Daiki exclaimed, pissed off.
His brother stopped laughing, "Oww, my little bro is really a man now!"
"Of course I am! I'm already 20 years old!
"But that doesn't erase the fact that you are way younger than me... YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUT THAT FLASHY EARRING ON THAT DAMN EAR OF YOURS!!!" Daisuke yelled like a concerned mother.
Daiki went back into facing himself on the mirror and tilted his face a bit to see the flashy earring his brother was fussing about. "But it looks cool, deshou?" 'It helps me to look like my age.'
"COOL? You look like a badass playboy you know!!!" The older commented.
Daiki grimaced, "Really? However... Mikan-chan said..."
"Mikan said guys wearing earrings are cool?"
Daiki faced his brother who was still comfortably lying on his bed. "Yes she did..."
Mikan... she is Daiki's childhood friend who lives just beside their home. They are really close and he tells her almost anything. They call each other best friend. They are of the same age and she is the person that Daiki usually consults when he needs an advice from a girl's point of view... His job is all about entertaining women of all ages anyway.
"So what if Mikan says she wants you to jump off the Tokyo Tower, you will do it?" Daisuke asked logically.
"Do I look like suicidal?"
"Yes or no?"
"Of course not!"
He sneered, "I bet you will! You've been head over heels to her since you were on the 6th grade Dai-chan!!! That woman can control you like a puppet yo...~"
Daiki walked near to his brother and lied beside him. "So what should I do then Niichan?"
"Tell her... tomorrow..."
"TOMORROW? Are you in a hurry?" Daiki exclaimed to him.
"Tomorrow is her birthday. It's a great present." Daisuke said before sitting up and looking at Daiki in the eyes. "Do it."
The younger felt something was weird with his brother, "Why are you suddenly so serious Niichan?"
He heaved a sigh, "It's just… I saw Mikan walking home with a guy. I think that's her classmate from the university." He revealed.
"NANDE??? She already has a boyfriend??!" Daiki abruptly sat up and gave him a determined or rather jealous face.
'Maybe I should have not told him... but he will discover it sooner or later because they are very close and I hate a gloomy Dai-chan.' "Maybe. Who knows?"
"NII-CHAN!!!!" He whined.
"Baka janai ka? How the hell would I know? I can't ask Mikan about such personal thing. You are the best friend! Ask her to a date tomorrow and tell her about your damn admiration to her!" Daisuke commanded before disappearing from his younger brother's room leaving him in trance.
'What? Mikan already got a boyfriend?'
Daisuke was smiling while going down the stairs. He knew him. That won't make Daiki sleep all night.
"I'LL KILL THAT BOYFRIEND OF HERS!!!"
He heard his younger brother screaming from his room.
"Haha! Stupid guy..."

And so Arioka Daiki was standing in front of someone's gate, waiting.
'Wooohh... I am really getting nervous... But Niichan was right. I should ask her if that guy with her is her boyfriend and if she will say he's not, and then I'll confess to her.' Determination had set his adrenaline to the highest level possible making it uncomfortable just staying still so he started walking back and forth in front of the gate.
"Oh come on Daiki," He muttered as he looked at his sweating palm. "You're getting utterly excited of this!"
Suddenly, noises came behind the gates. Daiki hastily spun around and braced himself.
"Oh, Dai-chan! Gomen nasai! Have you been waiting for too long?" Mikan -- a petite girl of cheeky attitude that Daiki always liked -- greeted him with a bow.
Daiki smiled widely. "It's fine! Even if you will make me wait for a year, it's really fine Mi-chan!"
"Haha! Stop it Dai-chan! You sound so cheesy it makes me melt. Don't do it that much, I might fall in love with you!" Mikan countered his sweet words sarcastically.
'I was serious.' But he just laughed it off. "By the way, otanjoubi omedetou guzaimasu!!!"
"Arigatou! Wow! It's been a while since we've gone out of date for my birthday, ne!~"
Daiki's heart skipped a beat hearing the word 'date'. "Well, if you like, we can do that everyday!"
"As if you can..." Mikan said in a sad tone.
"Of course I can!" He said without thinking.
She sneered at him, "You have work, remember?"
That's when he felt an imaginary hammer hit him on the head. "Yeah... of course I have work... I just, forgot..."
She hit him on the arm, "Stop acting stupid... Let's go now!"
He smiled, "Hai! Anywhere you want. You are the master of the day because you are now turning into an adult!"
"Yey! Since I am now an adult let's go to the bar!"
Daiki frowned when he thought he heard something wrong, "The... bar?"
"HAHAHA! I'm just kidding!"
"Even if you are kidding, that's not funny! You shouldn't go to such places Mi-chan!" He said, sounding overly concerned.
She giggled at the concern, "Hai Dai-chan! So let's just go to the amusement park!"
"Yey! To the amusement park!!!"
And the day unfolded with them spending it together. After the amusement park, they went to an Italian restaurant for lunch which was Daiki's treat (he insisted for it was her birthday) then they went to the zoo, to the department store for window shopping (with Daiki in disguise of course), to a music shop where they both bought an album of an American Pop Singer, and finally to another restaurant overlooking the famous and breath taking Rainbow Bridge for dinner.
"Uwaaahh Dai-chan! I really had fun! Thanks for vacating your whole day for me!" Mikan exclaimed as they waited for their orders to arrive on their table.
He smiled, "No problem. I enjoyed it as well and as your best friend, I need to be the one with you when you turn adult so that I can guide you and not some random people who might have brought you to explicit places like bars..." He said knowingly, as if he had been adult for a long time.
"Haha! You just turned 20 two months ago! Don't act so tough! I heard your BEST members gave you a party for turning an adult ne...~" She turned mischievous, "Where did you go? To bars?"
He turned red, "What are you talking about? They just brought me to some weird looking building's rooftop and threw eggs on me like stupid initiation in entering the adult's world!!!"
Mikan laughed so hard. "You and your friends are really funny! I hope I was there and took a picture of you! Maybe I could have used it on my exhibit for memorable pictures of my life..." Sadness was hinted on her voice. She hid it with her laughs but he noticed it.
Mikan is a photography student of a university.
"We can always make more memorable pictures ne! Don't think about it that much..." He assured her.
Suddenly, her smile turned into a bitter one, "I'm really sorry for not being able to spend your birthday together with you Dai-chan..."
"Oi, let's not get back to the past! I told you so many times that is was really fine with me Mikan-chan. I understand that you needed to do something much important." 'She's getting sad about that again. I need to cheer her up...'
But she continued looking gloomy. "I broke our promise of celebrating birthdays together..."
On Daiki's birthday last April 5, Mikan was in Kyoto for a photography seminar. Daiki forced her to go to that seminar because it was a requirement from one of her major subjects though she insisted of staying for his birthday.
"I still have many birthdays yo! Don't think of that one birthday when you were not there!" 'Though I badly want you to be there, above anyone else.'
The waiter then arrived bringing their orders. His presence lightened up the mood.
"Itadakimasu!" They said in unison before they dug in.
After eating, they decided to go to the zen garden of the restaurant, where they could have a better view of the Rainbow Bridge.
"Stop being sad now!" Daiki muttered.
"It's something I can't help..." She replied.
Noticing it, he grabbed her softly to a place on the garden when they can see the magnificent bridge clearly.
"Ne Mi-chan, I have something to tell you." Daiki said as they both stared at the awesome bright work of architecture in front of them.
"Me too."
He looked at her and then breathed in, "I actually like you..."
"Me too." She repeated with the same tone.
"No, I mean I like you more than being a friend... or best friend..."
"Meeeee too!" She exclaimed while looking at him.
He blinked, "What?"
She smiled at him, "That's what I actually wanna say to you too. You were just able to tell it first!" She revealed.
And everything sank into his mind. "HAA? But don't you have a boyfriend? Niichan saw you with a guy! Wait, was he lying to me?"
She shook her head, "No. That's a suitor. I dumped him that day but he insisted on walking me home because I told him I already like someone from my neighbors. He was hoping he could see you to know himself why I like you..."
"Eeehh? Maji de?"
"Hai Dai-chan!" 'I'm happy it's Daisuke-niichan who saw us and not him...' She sighed inwardly.
"Wow that was easy..."
"What's easy?"
"Confessing! Are we a couple now?"
"Baka janai ka? You still need to court me yo!~ It's not enough to learn that our feelings our mutual!" She lectured him.
That surprised him, "WHAT? So we can't go dating yet?"
"Dating? The heck, we've been dating since we became best friends! What I mean is that I am not your girlfriend yet to make things clear!" She was now getting embarrassed talking about this thing with him. "Why are you so dense Dai-chan?"
"So then, Mikan-chan, will you be my girlfriend?"
Mikan almost tripped down in surprised even though she was standing on a plain ground. "You're annoyingly fast ne!~"
"Ahh, then I'll wait of your answer. Just tell me whenever you are ready, okay?!" He grinned like a kid.
That's what Mikan liked about him; he looked at things with a very positive and pure perspective. Suddenly, a flashy thing from his ear caught her attention. She stared at it until she made out what was that. "Wow! You are wearing an earring Dai-chan!"
"Ahh..." He blushed while his hand held the earring, "Yeah... But Niichan said I looked like a playboy wearing this..."
"I'm sorry. I just noticed it now." She apologized while still looking at the earring.
"There's really nothing to be sorry for."
She then averted her gaze towards the Rainbow Bridge, "You know what, when I was in elementary, I had a dream of a guy. His face was a blur but he was wearing cool clothing and what I remembered the most of him was..."
He looked at her, anticipating what she would say.
"... He had an earring on his left ear. It flashed to my vision just like how I noticed your earring a while ago."
His eyes widened. 'She dreamed of me?'
"Since that time, I always think that the guy in my dream was my soul mate and I would search for him no matter where he is and marry him. That's the reason why I like guys who wear earrings. I never thought it would just be the person who was with me all the time..."
"W-wow... your dream is weird Mi-chan..." He gasped. "I'm sorry it was not your soul mate."
She grimaced. "You're missing the point here."
"Eh?"
She gave up. Knowing Daiki, he's not really good with deciphering things regarding love. "That means you are that guy in my dream, my soul mate! Dumbass!"
"WHAAT?" He shrieked of the conclusion.
Mikan sighed. "I can't believe you didn't thought of that." She rolled her eyes and held his hand. "I guess I am your girlfriend now then..." She whispered.
Daiki felt his body warming when she placed her hand on his. Butterflies started to ravage his stomach as a fluttering feeling dominated his mind.
"Thanks for this wonderful present Arioka Daiki." She whispered softly to his ear which has the earrings.
He shivered as her warm breath reached his skin, "H-hai..."
She tightened her hand on his, "So from now on, you don't have any right to flirt with any girls okay! You already have a girlfriend..."
"Hey, I don't flirt with anyone!"
"But now that you're wearing that, I bet many will think you are a playboy!" She sounded accusing, "If I see you flirting, I'll kill you and your mistress!"
"Then I will take it off..." He immediately countered.
She shook her head while smiling, "No. For me, guys who wear earrings are super cool so leave that alone, okay?"
He then hugged her, "Wakatta Master!"
"Good!"
Then Daiki started grinning like mad. "Suki dayo..."
"Me too!"
The controversial Arioka Daiki with his earring.
