Chapter 13:
"Yuto's Birthday"

-x-x-x-

When Ayako was able to speak properly, she smiled and greeted him, "Otanjoubi Omedetou Guzaimasu!!!" while handing out a small box with a ribbon in front of him.

"Ehh?" He blurted out at the sight of the box.

"Here's my present!" She announced.

"Maji de?!" He looked at the box and got it from her hand. "Arigatou!!!"

"I really hope you'll like it!" She said before biting her lower lip in nervousness of what he may say about the gift.

Yuto opened the box and saw something black inside it. He picked it and his eyes widened, it was the black and elegant guitar capo he had planned to buy a month ago but forgot all about it when he got busy with Summary. (More info about what 'capo' is in here!!)

"Whoah!" He muttered as he examined the capo. Underneath the holder, he saw something engraved on it. "...follow your dreams..."

Ayako heard her heart beating faster than normal as she saw him looked at her gift intently, "Do you like it?" She asked.

Yuto put the capo back in the box and looked at her with teary eyes, "Arigatou Aya-chan! I love it very much!"

"Really!!!" She screamed, "Waaah! That's a relief." She took a deep breath.

Yuto stood up and hugged her, "Arigatou! Arigatou!! I'm really happy you gave me a present for my birthday!" He chanted along. "I wasn't expecting it!"

Ayako was surprised and her face was in the shade of deep red. Her sweat started to form on her forehead again. 'W-wait, he's hugging me. NAKAJIMA YUTO IS ACTUALLY HUGGING ME!' Her mad thoughts filled her mind that she couldn't properly think anymore. 'It feels like I'm the one who is celebrating my birthday!'

And one thing was clear, Yuto was more than happy to receive that gift from her that in spite of how frustrated he became seeing her together with his best friend, he forgot all of it and enveloped her with his longs and warm arms, giving her a one of a kind euphoric feeling.

Finally, he pulled away and went back to the gift he received from her, looking at it again and again with his genuine smile glued on his face.

"I'm really happy you liked it." She uttered. "Good thing Yamada-kun helped me choosing what to give to you." She revealed as she sat beside him on the bench, knees were still slightly trembling due to the drastic change of events.

"Yama-chan... helped you?" He felt something weird at what she said, "When?"

"Ahh... during your last day off but he said I shouldn't tell you about it. Maybe it should be a secret...." She paused with eyes widened, "Wait, why am I telling you about it anyway?!" 'Crap, I sounded like a baka!' She thought.

"Did you buy it on the nearby mall?" He asked, suddenly curious.

"Ehh? Should I reveal where have I bought a present to its receiver?" She countered, trying not to sound stupid like what she did.

Yuto took that as a yes and sighed, 'I am an idiot!' He thought as he remembered what he did to his friend -- not talking to him because he saw him with her and they looked like dating. 'I am a certified idiot!'

-x-x-x-

Yamada heaved a sigh as he walked around the Jimusho. He looked at his watch, he was early enough. He still had fifteen minutes to waste before the call-up time for their meeting. He tightened his grip on his bag slung on his shoulder.

"Yama-chan!"

He heard a voice calling his name. His eyes widened in surprise, he knew that voice. It had been a while since he last heard that voice saying his name that his heart beat faster that usual. 'Yuto-kun?'

He stopped from his tracks and turned around, his intuition didn't fail him... it was Yuto.

"Ohayou!" Yuto quicken his steps and approach his friend.

Yamada's face was still surprised, "Ohayou..." He greeted back.

When Yuto caught up with him, they started walking together.

No words came out. It was getting all too awkward. Yamada wanted to say something but the words seemed to be hiding beneath his mind. People passing them didn't seem to notice the awkward atmosphere between them.

"Gomen nasai..."

Yamada heard a whisper. He was busy deciding what he should say to Yuto when he heard some murmurings from him. He looked at him, eyes were unreadable.

Yuto was looking away, not wanting to catch him eye to eye. He was guilty; he admitted inwardly, that was why he couldn't look at him on the eyes.

"Nehh?" Yamada blurted, like asking him to say clearly what he had said earlier.

Yuto pursed his lips in embarrassment, "I said I'm sorry."

Yamada's eyes widened again. Yes, his closest friend within the Jimusho was Yuto and he knew him best. Yuto was a kind of person who would always take the initiative to do something when he's at fault. He chuckled, "Finally, you gave up!"

"Ehh? I'm not giving up anything!" Yuto protested.

"No?" He teased, "Of course you are! You're giving up your pride!" He informed him.

Yuto pouted, "No, it's not pride! I'm just admitting it's my fault!"

"It's the same thing!" Yamada said. "By the way, why did you do that?!"

Yuto bit his lower lip, "I think I got mad when I saw you with Aya-chan on the mall during our day off." He answered in a low, embarrassed tone.

Yamada gasped. He wanted to laugh at his reason but he realized that what the other members had guessed about the reason why Yuto was not talking to him was right, it was all about Himeji Ayako. She called him asking a favor if he could help her choose a gift for Yuto's birthday and he did help her but he never thought that Yuto would see them. He was careless. He knew that Yuto had a plan to buy a new pair of shoes but he never assume that they would be shopping at the same mall, 'I should have avoided this to happen!' He thought.

"But I already knew that you just helped her." Yuto added, "That's why I'm saying sorry to you Yama-chan!"

Yamada stopped from walking when they were only a few meters away from their dressing room. Yuto noticed him and stopped too.

"HAHAHA!!!" He laughed loudly with hands on his stomach that people passing them looked at him in surprise and bewilderment. He couldn't resist it anymore.

"N-nani?!" Yuto blundered.

"Stupid!" He remarked between loud laughs.

Yuto couldn't help to fluster in embarrassment, "I freakin' know how lame that was so stop laughing already!"

Yamada's face was in red due to too much laughing, "Yuto-kun, you're an idiot!"

"I know, I know!" Yuto chanted as he pulled Yamada who couldn't stop laughing anymore towards their dressing room.

On the other hand, Yabu was already preparing himself while facing in front of the mirror. He had practiced what he would say to persuade Yamada or Yuto, whoever would come first, to reconcile with each other already and Hikaru approved of it so he was pretty confident that everything would turn out fine.

"I'm ready!" He exclaimed.

"Ganbarimasu!" The others cheered him.

Inoo opened and peeked on the door, "Uhh, Yabu, both of them are coming!" He reported.

"Both? Both of them? I was only planning to talk either one!" Yabu whined.

Daiki forced himself on the opening of the door too with Inoo, "Yeah, and they seemed to be like normal?!"

"Ehh?" Everyone blurted.

"And Yuto is grabbing Yama-chan's wrist. Do you think they are fighting?" Inoo asked.

But before anyone could answer him, Yuto and Yamada already reached the door and were puzzled seeing Inoo and Daiki's heads peeking on the door.

"Is there something wrong?" Yuto asked them.

Inoo and Daiki shook their heads simultaneously and opened the door wider to welcome both of them.

Everyone saw the red-faced laughing Yamada and the birthday boy Yuto.

"OTANJOUBI OMEDETOU GUZAIMASU!" They greeted him.

Yuto smiled, "Arigatou minna!" His cute and wonderfully arranged white teeth glimmer with the light.

7 crowded around Yuto and started to give their presents and personal greetings to him.

"I guess you don't need to talk to them anymore!" Takaki uttered on the corner as he put an arm around Yabu's shoulders.

Yabu nodded, "Yeah, I think they matured already! They can settle their problems with just themselves." He remarked, sounding like a proud mother.

"It's because you're a good mother, Yabumama!" Hikaru teased.

Yabu's faced turned dark, "What?"

"Ehh? Don't take that seriously, I was just joking!" Hikaru exclaimed.

After their performance on Summary, Yuto felt so elated. Fans had greeted him during their show, the members gave him presents and a promise that they would celebrate his birthday on a barbecue party on their next day off, Ayako gave him a gift too and his friendship with Yamada was mended already.

"We'll be going now..." Keito told him with a pat on his shoulder.

"Hai!" He replied.

"Happy birthday again!" Chinen greeted before they left him on HSJ's dressing room, all alone. It was very quiet that it made him relax. He closed his eyes.

He told them that his parents were coming to fetch him from the Jimusho so he won't need to go with them. They would celebrate his birthday somewhere. He let his back leaned on the sofa when he heard someone opened the door again. He shot his eyes open to see Yamada passing across him.

"Where's the others?" Yamada asked. He sat on his usual seat in front of the mirrors and dug something inside his bag.

"They went downstairs already." He answered.

Their manager called Yamada to talk about something so he wasn't aware of what happened in the dressing room the whole time.

"How about you?" Yamada asked him while looking at Yuto's reflection on the mirror in front of him.

Yuto closed his eyes again, "I'll be waiting for my parents."

Yamada smiled, "You'll be celebrating?"

He nodded once.

Then, silence. The only thing they could hear was the air conditioner's noise.

"Oi..."

Yuto opened his eyes once again when he felt Yamada sat beside him on the sofa. He looked at him.

Yamada put his bag on his lap, "Tell me honestly Yuto-kun, do you like Himeji-san?"

"Nehh?" He jolted; he was flabbergasted with his question. "Why are you suddenly asking weird questions?"

"Answer me..." He demanded.

Yuto looked puzzled, 'What's wrong with him?'

He looked serious, "The way you reacted when you saw her with me was really a silly one. You don't conclude things as such. Maybe it's not that you were mad Yuto-kun..."

Yuto gulped when Yamada paused.

"...maybe you were actually jealous." He finished.

"EHHH?! Jealous? Why would I be?" He asked Yamada continuously, freaking out all the while.

Yamada smirked, "You ask yourself." He said before standing up. "Gotta go now. Happy birthday again!"

"Ahh, arigatou." Was the only thing he could reply.

Yamada waved before disappearing behind the door.

"What was that all about? Me, jealous? Why would I be?" He asked loudly as he leaned his back against the sofa again. "... Why won't I be?" He closed his eyes and let the rush of mixed emotions ravaged his mind.

'Maybe I was indeed jealous...'

-x-x-x-
