Chapter 6:
The Friend
-x-x-x-
It's been three months since classes started. Ayako had smoothly managed her studies and the tutorial session she did with Yuto. They meet thrice every week days, and Yuto visits her house during his free Saturdays to play with her cats. As days passed by, they got closer to each other that Yuto had started calling her Aya-chan. She didn't mind it and remained calling him with Yuto-kun, in respect for him being an idol.
'Will you be in the library this afternoon?' She sent a message for him.
She usually send those kinds of messages every Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the week to make sure she won't be wasting her time waiting for him. He got an unpredictable schedule that one time, he sent her a message that he won't be coming to their tutorial lessons way too late. She had been on the library, waiting for nothing. Yet she couldn't blame him. He's a celebrity and has many responsibilities as an entertainer for people.
'Maybe I should meet Kitagawa Johnny someday...' She thought as her wild imagination came up to Yuto's boss. 'He seemed to be a cool old man...'
She was busy preparing for school when her phone beeped signaling that she received a new message. She immediately abandoned her bag and picked her phone from the table.
'Yeah! See you there...' She read the message and couldn't help smiling afterward.
"Ice creammmmm~" She sang.
If she counted the days correctly, it's been seven days since the last time he had seen him and was treated with an ice cream. Hey! Say! JUMP was terribly busy due to the releasing of their very first album.
Nonetheless, she never stopped wishing every subjects of the day ends up as quickly as possible.
"Please, time... just run faster!!!" She muttered under her breath after they bowed when the teacher dismissed them to give way for lunch time.
"Aya-chan, you've been so hasty since this morning... Are you waiting for something?" Her seatmate asked when she noticed Ayako's unsettling aura.
Ayako sat down to her chair, got her bento from her bag and put it on the table in front of her. "I need to do something after classes." She said, not wanting to spill more information to her friend.
Her seatmate dragged her own table to cover the half-a-meter space between them, sat on her chair and got her own bento from her bag. "Really..." She sounded like she just smelled something fishy.
Ayako looked at her, secretly nervous of how she could counter what her friend would say.
"Nevermind." She heard her say as she opened her own bento, "Wow! Prawns!"
Ayako sighed in relief, 'Thank God'. Her thoughts muttered. "Can I have some of your prawns Michi-chan?"
"Yeah, sure!" Michiko, her closest friend among her classmates, willingly offered her bento to Ayako.
She got some pieces of prawns with the use of chopsticks and stuffed it on her own bento.
"Neh, Aya-chan! I have something to show you!" Michiko excitedly giggled as she got something from her bag.
She got curious because she looked so excited, "What is it?!" She asked before putting a prawn in her mouth.
Ayako saw her friend got her wallet, 'Wallet? Will she show me her money?' Her eyebrow rose.
Michiko opened her wallet and showed a picture of a kid. "Look, look!"
She analyzed the picture twice while chewing the food in her mouth. 'Hmm... a picture ID of a cute kid, seemed to be in his elementary years, age ranges from 7 to 9 years old, with chubby cheeks, mushroom-styled hair...'
"What can you say about him?"
"Ahh..." She carefully thought of what she should say, "Cute...?"
Michiko's excited face turned into a doomed one, "Just cute..." She withdrew her wallet from her vision and put it back to her bag.
'I'm a goner...' Ayako thought. 'This is one of her weird moods when it comes to guys again but that kid is an exception! I can't imagine her adoring the boy too much to the extent of putting his portrait in her wallet and showing it to me!' She inwardly freaked out.
"You really don't know that kid?" Michiko tried again.
She shook her head, "Why, do you have a crush on him? Have you gone pedophile Michi-chan? That kid seemed to be still in elementary!"
"Of course I'm not! That's Yama-chan!!!" Her companion revealed.
Now, everything made sense. That was Yamada Ryosuke, Michiko's ichiban and long time crush -- the guy who seemed to be the only reason why she's studying hard and her inspiration to be a successful lawyer someday. Just then, Ayako remembered that Yamada Ryosuke came from the same group as Yuto, which led her to get agitated again for their tutorial later that afternoon. Her pulse beat faster as her adrenaline level rose high.
"That was HIM?!" Ayako blurted out loudly. "Really?! How old was he on that picture? Did you steal it from his previous school? Oh come on Michiko! You've been super obsess!"
"Will you relax?!" Michiko looked at her with contempt. "I just saw that picture from the internet and I got terribly hooked so I printed it out and put it in my wallet, that's all! Don't panic!!!"
"Oww...” Ayako put the chopsticks in front of her mouth. 'Crap. I got all excited. Nahh!~ I should not think about meeting Yuto-kun too much again and having ice cream or I'll ruin my well-cared dignity in this school...'
"Ayako, I think you're really up to something. You don't get that frantic when I talk about Yama-chan..." Michiko said in a serious tone. "Tell me honestly, do you like him too?"
"Ehh?!" She got surprised with her frank tone and question.
"Don't worry, I won't be mad." She assured her but her face seemed to contradict her words. Michiko looked suspicious and ready to shot her with a shotgun if she wouldn't like her answer.
She shook her head nervously, "I don't like him, of course! Michi-chan, he can be all yours!"
"Good thing..." Michiko finally smiled and continued eating her lunch. "I know you won't like him. He's not actually your type but I think you'll like his group mate, Nakajima-kun!"
She coughed, almost had herself choked by the food in her mouth. "What... Who??!"
Michiko only gave her a smile and continued eating. "Nothing..." She murmured.
Ayako sighed and started eating her lunch again. 'Oh my, why is my heart seemed to be tortured by various emotions today? This day is really extraordinary...'
Little did she know that the heart-torturing events had just started...
Finally, Ayako found herself walking towards the library near the hospital, the place where she usually meets up with Yuto for their tutorial sessions. She was from her house to feed her cats and change clothes. She couldn't afford reading a showbiz tabloid with a heading "Nakajima of Hey!Say!JUMP was spotted with a mysterious girl wearing a ToyoHigh School uniform..." Angry fans would definitely use all their sources to learn who the girl the tabloid meant. She knew the wrath of fan girls could equate to a 7-magnitude earthquake but what she was worrying more was the wrath of her school.
'I couldn't allow myself being bullied around Toyo by students and even teachers due to my involvement with an idol...' Those thoughts made her shudder before she slowly pushed the wooden door of the library.
"Irasshaimase!" The librarian greeted her with a smile.
She slightly bowed, "Konichiwa!"
Ayako walked towards their usual place, the table behind a wide bookcase and on the back part of the library. They intended to choose that place so people passing by on that area wouldn't see them easily.
She gulped in sudden nervousness when she saw Yuto, looking very cool while reading something intently as his chin was resting on his right palm, right elbow on the table. 'How cool...~'
"Hi..." She greeted him in a low tone.
He jolted in surprise, "Ahh, Aya-chan!"
"Oh, I'm sorry to disturb you..." She apologized. "What's the agenda of the day?"
He shook his head, "It's fine and please sit down..." He said as he pointed his hands to the chair opposing him. "Hmm, we need to do a book report. It will be passed next week."
"So you'll be reading. That's nice. I can make my assignment while you read." She said as she sat across him and noticed a bag resting on the seat beside Yuto. He usually puts his bag on his own chair so she's presuming that was not his.
He saw her looking at the bag on his right, "Ahh Aya-chan, I forgot to tell you that I brought a friend."
"A friend?" She asked. 'Is that friend a celebrity too? Maybe not....’
"Yeah! He got curious of why I suddenly excelled in all of my subjects and asked me who my tutor is. I told him it's you and he wanted to see you too." He explained with delight, "Is that alright with you?"
She nodded and smiled, "Of course." She put her bag on her chair, got some books from it and set the books on the table. "But, where is he?"
"He said he will just get some books for our book report..." Then they heard footsteps coming towards them.
She saw Yuto smiled, "I think that's already him."
A guy appeared holding two books on his right hand and reading another one on his left hand. She looked at the unfamiliar guy closely, like examining every detail of his being.
"Yama-chan!" Yuto called him up.
The guy lifted his sight from the book he was reading to them.
"Yama-chan?" She uttered, 'Don't tell me....'
