It's like a kick to the chest when Rodney and Carson materialize in front of him, skidding and jumping the wormhole expertly. He's really gotta have a chat with The Big Man about these close calls..
Rodney's his best friend, and he's not sure when it happened... but he figures it can't be recent, not in light of.. recent events.
"Don't forget about us." That sharp voice in his ear, and that's where he wants it to stay. And as long as he's alive and well.. he'll make sure McKay is too. Not that the man seems to need his help these days.
That almost hurts, in a sick way. But what isn't sick about this train of thought? What? He wants Rodney to be helpless? Just as much as he is.. Dependent on John's touch to awaken him...
He snaps out of it, rubbing at bleary eyes. This is stupid. All of it... stupid. And he's furious, just wants it all to disappear.
Disappear like Rodney and Beckett had, before his very eyes. He shudders, squeezing his eyes shut, and convinces himself that finishing another chapter of War and Peace is the only thing he can handle now. No more thinking; no more... can be spared for this topic. Not now, not ever.
And he won't ever forget.
