It's a lengthy quote, about how the Internet took longer to catch on in places where person-to-person interaction was more deeply entrenched in the culture. The implication is that where you go to find your personal interaction depends on what kind of personal interaction you're looking for. I don't really have anything against the kind of games Facebook offers, but it seems like a cleverly designed path of addiction. Want personal interaction? Visit our site where friends are waiting! Friends haven't posted in a while? Play Mafia Wars and other games! And suddenly the instinct for personal interaction has been replaced by something completely separate. It's good to be reminded that it's possible to hop off that path and go back to in-person conversations with friends.

Lotsa smart friends on Facebook, but somehow I thought the quote would be misunderstood in that environment.
