New York Accomodation...

Mar 13, 2012 20:49

Just a random thought for those joining me in New York...I'm looking at checking into a hotel, in on the 20th and out on the 23rd April. It occured to me that some of what I was turning up were apartments around the $300 a mark night. Anyway interested in sharing an apartment? MmeJavert pointed out that parking is nearly impossible and she's better ( Read more... )

I'll probably be taking the Megabus in--that is, assuming I don't get caught up in another scheduling brouhaha and get shipped out to Côte d'Ivoire that weekend. (Unlikely but possible, although I'd probably have more luck convincing them to postpone it if I had lodging commitments in NYC and not "just" once-in-a-lifetime sold-out concert tickets later in the week.) Driving is probably more sensible for anyone not on a major bus/train corridor, but since there's no shortage of express buses from DC, I would much rather stay in town and take advantage of the actually-functional public transit than deal with the expensive logistical nightmare of bringing a car to NYC. So yes, absolutely! Maybe not all three nights, but I'd happily go splits with you for Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your plans, but I'm not sure I'll be able to meet up at all. I have a very important paper that I've been working on all year due that Monday, and while I'd be down if I had to skip out on all the fun to finish it up, I can't promise I'll be at a point where I'm comfortable calling it quits. Hopefully you sympathize. :)

In any event, I'm like an hour away from Penn Station by train, so wouldn't need to worry about accommodations in any event.

No worries! If you can, that would be great :)

Was originally thinking I'd just be heading up for the afternoon on Saturday on one of the discount buses, but this would give a) way more time to hang out and b) the ability to drink while hanging out, which is also a benefit.

I'm still in the unemployment mindset on significant expenditures, so part of my brain is saying I shouldn't. Except I can afford it, and when will I ever see you again, which are both much stronger arguments than "But you need to remain accustomed to being broke!"

I could arrive late Friday night (leaving after work, so an arrival after 10 pm), with a departure early Sunday evening, so Friday and Saturday nights.

If that's reasonable to you, then yes, count me in! And if it doesn't work out, no worries, I'll just revert to the original plan of spending an afternoon.

I've got this sort of vague idea of booking an apartment for 4 people (the Grand Central sleeps 6 in theory), and then people could pay me, say, $70 a night for whichever of the 3 nights they want to say...if that fits in with people's budgets. I do like the idea of having a place to hang out/drink (although we can do that in bars, too!). And yes - I don't know when I'll next be this way (hopefully sooner than the gap between this and my last US trip!)

For me, it's 4 hours on the bus, and I'm not really one for day drinking, so best case scenario on a day trip would be arriving around 11:30 am and having to leave around 8 pm, which means no good cocktail time, and that would be sad.

It'll be a couple weeks before bus tickets go on sale, so I've got some time if plans need to change, but count me in for Friday and Saturday nights!

It depends - if it's 300 dollars and there's three or four of us, I could manage - I'm gonna take the train in, and I don't mind taking it twice, but like mmebahorel said, staying overnight would give more time to hang out/have a drink or two. Are there limits to how many people can stay in the apartments? Because if there are I wouldn't mind backing out either, I live close enough it's not a big deal either way.

It's supposed to sleep 6...need to check how much doubling up there is. I was just going to suggest that people give me $70 a night for however long they wish to stay :)
