Ah, well let us know what they say or if they have good prices on saris. Mine came from the online shop I linked to above and their prices are decent. Frankly, if you are interested in one for lounging about the house, you may find it to be a bother. It takes some practice to learn to wrap and fold it properly. A lunghi or sarong is still my preference. But for an event like this, the dhoti looks tre kewl. The ladies seem to like it.
I'll definitely report back. I've been considering maybe getting back into the SCA, and doing Indian in the warmer months (I'm too corpulent and hairy to do southern Indian, though) and Norse in the winter. Although I just found a couple pakuls at the thrift store, which would make Afghan a possibility. (And I just found out about Afghanistan's Hindu community, which is fascinating.)
Cool. Well, SCA may be best taken in smaller doses (at least fo the likes of you and me right now). Hey - if you have any interest in coming with us this Saturday, let me know, though I assume it may be too short notice. I know about Buddhism in Afghanistan, but not Hindu. Intriguing!
I agree with the seasonal shift. I do have some slightly warmer Japanese, of course and that's still my main persona, but it is hard to beat a good wool tunic. Hey - if you want to do some garb-making sometime, just let us know. We can get you into a proper Norse tunic and trousers easily. And of course we have sources for northern as well as southern Indian.
That reminds me, I think, but I'm not sure, that you kow that the Radcliffs are planning to come over for blot and hanging out on 2/3 (if memory serves).
M'lady was studying Indian classical dance - i.e. Hindu temple dancing - for a while. But she's had a hard time getting back to practicing. I try to nudge her about it as I think it is incredibly cool and beautiful, not to mention good exercise. So, interest/persona-wise we're a little out of step since this is technically a Middle Eastern theme event, but it's easy to mesh in anyway and it's a very relaxing day. Someday I do hope we can get you and yours to an event. maybe this spring or summer?
Anyway, enjoy your birthday! Everyone says Pan's Labyrinth is amazing. I bet Jesse will like it even.
