I'm pretty sure I am not wanted or needed there and fear the personality politics still.

eh???

all three of us need some new garb

For AL & you, i'm sure that was a bit of a surprise, but E is going to need new garb every so many months until she's 12 or so and able to do at least some of it herself. *grin*

*sigh* A.L. and I sorta ran away from Eisental. It was very unpleasant due to politics and deadly burn-out. It was also getting very fragmented/cliqueish and I felt outside of pretty much all of the cliques - esp. the one that was/is running things. Granted, that was partly by choice, but it kinda makes you not want to play. I suspect some of the old guard there may see me in a negative light as a result - "quiter". Beyond that there was my own burn-out and the onset of parenthood.

Well yeah...we aren't totally clueless about how our kid is growing. But how do you prioritize making garb when you're not going to that many events? Plus, growth spurts are not exactly on a clock. I am sure Jen will make a bunch of over-sized stuff with huge hems she can grow into.

*hugs*

I can commiserate with you about cliquish politics in the SCA... and those that would call you a quitter should only look at your daughter to see that you had far more important things to take care of than their horse manure.

"we aren't totally clueless " *grin*

I think that's what most parents do - oversize, yet simple outfits, although i have seen a few girls in perfect miniatures of what mom was wearing (Elizabethan?)... What that's adorable, it's just not practical, unless they plan on selling the old garb as it is outgrown.

my mind is running faster than my frozen fingers can type... let's try that second paragraph again...

I've been really reluctant to go to any of the meetings and whatnot since the recent unpleasantness, especially knowing some of what I know. But that's probably not a good topic for LJ comments...

Well, I understand there is some fresh blood now. Maybe things are shifting. As for the incident you refer to, while that was a trauma and a catalyst that caused other pots to boil over, I don't think it remains a main reason why the shire is having difficulties. I know it may never be over for those who were close to it, but I think for everyone else, it is largely in the past except for possible PR aspects. I think it did contribute to the burnout. Last newsleter we got listed a few offices already up for grabs again, IIRC. Some folks are laying low, or just doing SCA where it is fulfiling for them. Others are marching on because they have a focus that trumps the negative stuff. Like, Jadwiga just pulled off a good event there - she is driven an can overlook politics in favor of her goal (she also can pull in help from friends and folks outside the shire). I only know just thinking about the shire makes me feel tired and sorta numb.

I'm glad to hear that things are changing and people are moving on, definitely. Of course our shire had a lot more wrong with it than that; it was always waaay too fractious. When I went to Florida people warned me that the shire there had "too much politics" but it was nothing compared to up here. I miss the Florida group because people actually got things done, and it was a lot less stickjock-infested...

heym, don't diss the fighters too much - I have been known to swing a stick now and then myself. I don't think fighters are the propblem in Eisnetal anyway. It's the personality mix and geography. Yes, it is a fairly fractious group by its nature. I don't know if that can ever be changed unless some key people retire.

Mmmm, wool... must make some wool stuff too!

We understand about the brewing nights, but still hope you can do it... if only so Asa can join us. Once the house is cleaned up (big push on that this month), Joe could possibly do it (hey, hun, see how I volunteer you) -- and there could be sewing or other fiber-oriented things in conjunction, too -- BUT, it's kind of far for Asa.

'Course not that many people from your local Shire attended when the former KOF (Keeper of the flame...) had them, at least not the times we went...

You are wanted and needed by plenty of us. It's kind of like family, your local group is just the one you're with becuase of geography -- a brewing group would be one you're with because of interest. The more I see local group politic issues, the more I understand why people form households....

Yeah, this was a major object lesson. I'm also going to go back to the old deal of keeping some dry clothes in the car.

Indeed. I wouldn't expect a lot of people. I don't know how many Eisentalers would come anyway, not just cuz of the host but based on the track record with trying to do anything art-related in Eisental. I would certainly cross-post the date/time to H-dale also. It's weird. i am a convenient mid-way point for some, but really inconvenient for others being on an SCA border line.

You are wanted and needed by plenty of us.

Wasn't looking for validation, but thanks.

Good in some ways, but also ( ... )

Do you camp? I don't know where you live, but it was maybe a high of 70 here, lows in the 40s and raining the whole time. That's cold and miserable for camping. It's still a bit early in the season unless you're prepared to deal with that possibility. Wool is the best of all warmth fabrics - keeps you warm even if it gets wet, does breath, and is fire resistant.

i havent camped in about fifteen years. although wool breathes, i assumed that its a bit too warm for the non-winter season. i dont wear wool when it rains, though.
