In which I stumble onto a New Year's Resolution

Jan 05, 2016 21:44

In 2016 my family will be eating supper together.

Well, whoever is home will all sit down together. No feeding the children while I do housework, or Bruce eating on a tray in our room if it is a normal person meal time.

I think this is a good one to have.

I grew up earing family dinner every night. I think it's a wonderful habit.

Definitely a good resolution. We try to do this as much as possible and are pretty good at all being together for all of our meals at the table.

That's how I grew up. It hit me very suddenly last week that we've been all earing separately, and I don't like it.

We've had family supper three nights in a row!

We're getting back to this this year, too. I'm not sure how we got out of the habit, but we did. Partly my fault because I just like to sometimes eat and read my book in silence so then it's easy to say "sure!' when the teen wants to go eat in front of youtube videos or whatever....

We got out of the routine because I'm not usually hungry when the children are. Days Bruce was working I'd just feed them while I did something else, like nurse the baby. So the new house rule I'd that everyone sits at the table, including Baby. Even if you don't eat, you sit.

That is a good resolution! We have the same rule -- everyone sits at the table, eating or not. Still working on the "no phones / toys at the table" rule ... which I am guilty of.

Good luck with this. I think it is important to actually sit down and eat meals at a table, preferably with whoever else you live with, rather than to just grab food and eat it while doing whatever else is going on. Accomplishing that seems to be hard for people with multiple children though.
