Jared lies in bed, thousands of miles away from where he should be. He can’t sleep without the warm presence of Jensen by his side. Jensen calls Jared the cuddler, but secretly it’s Jensen that pulls Jared’s body on top of him. Jensen is consistently cold while Jared is always burning hot, so it works for them.

Jared’s on a business trip doing promos for his latest movie in another country and the only place he wants to be is back home in their bed, dogs at the edge and Jensen’s cold toes tucked between Jared’s calves.

Just as Jared’s contemplating calling Jensen, time zones be damned, his phone rings. He looks at the screen and sees Jensen smiling his smile that makes him look like a five year old and he answers with his own beaming grin. Jared’s so glad they went for the phone plan that allowed for international traveling and calling so there aren’t any hassles and 187 digit codes to type in.

“Hey beautiful,” Jared says, adoration completely evident in his voice.

“Mmm, hi baby,” Jensen says back, sounding a bit groggy, but still sexy as hell with his voice all raspy. Jared calculates and realizes that Jensen probably just got up to go to set.

“Just got up?” Jared asks.

“Yeah, thought I’d call. Isn’t the same without your ass being all perky and awake and serving me coffee.” He sounds wistful and Jared’s heart clenches a little. All he wants is to be home right now, more than anything.

“I was just about to call. It isn’t the same here without your icy body next to mine. I’m all sweltering and uncomfortable.”

Jared can hear Jensen sigh and he just wants to hold him close.

“How many days?” Jensen asks in a soft voice.

“Three.”

“Promise?”

“Pinky swear,” Jared tells him, and he knows they take those seriously. It’s Jared’s turn to sigh. “When did we get so damn codependent, man?”

“When we met,” Jensen quips, and it’s true. Since that first handshake in the WB office in LA, they’ve been inseparable and each trip away hurts a bit more than the last one.

They talk a bit more about anything and everything and the smooth cadence of Jensen’s voice helps Jared’s muscles relax.

“Thanks Jensen,” Jared says sleepily. Jensen, as always, knows exactly what he means.

“Always baby, thank you.”

They hang up, promising to call again soon, and Jared falls asleep in mere seconds, thoughts of Jensen dancing in his mind.
