Kyuhyun was still knitting…

There was rampant speculation in the wake of Siwon’s gift to Hankyung… The red scarf Hankyung seemed taken with out of all reason. Had he left to go outside once without it? The hole Siwon often made disparaging remarks about had never been fixed. No one asked why, when Siwon’s fingers were so often found tucked through it as he stood near Hankyung.

Someone had wondered, teasingly, if Hankyung even took the scarf with him to bed.

“He doesn’t have to,” Siwon said, sounding a little dangerous. (His Siwon-scarf.) And that had been the end of questioning that out loud.

But there was another length of knitted fabric that the rest had their eye on. Kyuhyun was not a… social knitter. In fact, he was more like a hermit in that regard. He performed very poorly for an audience, which was more than a little surprising. Though, if you had four very interested sets of eyes glued to every movement of your hands, you might be a bit testy about it, too. It was brightly colored, this scarf … Not even for a moment did they imagine it was for Kyuhyun, because the thought of him wearing it was almost too much to imagine.

Bets were taken and challenges made, and Kyuhyun ignored them all.

If it were for one of the remaining four…

Ryeowook was immediately discounted. It was not his style. He was only mildly hurt by the elimination, but agreed it was definitely not for him.

Asking Kyuhyun got them the answer they deserved.

“Maybe it’s for Hankyung gege, too,” he said darkly, twining the yarn a little more securely around his little finger.

“Does gege need two scarves?” Henry wondered.

The way Kyuhyun laughed at Henry eliminated their baby quite immediately.

That left two…

The testing of the colors Kyunhyun was using told them little. Zhou Mi and Donghae had tried similar colors together and on both of them, and it had been a draw. The colors looked good on them both.

Siwon had tried to poke his nose in and was instantly sent away on account that he wasn’t part of the problem. This was regretted as cooler heads prevailed, as he had spent quite a time holed up under Kyuhyun’s tutelage, and might have had some better idea.

But no matter. They had found the ultimate test: Which of them wanted him, excuse me, it… more? Well, now. That had been the answer they had been looking for all along…

“I dropped a stitch,” Kyuhyun muttered, needles and fingers all akimbo as he manipulated the yarn.

“Does it matter?” Zhou Mi asked, sitting knee to knee with Kyuhyun and quite unable to tell where one “stitch” began and another ended.

“If it’s going to be perfect…”

“Will that matter to who you’re giving it to?”

“It will to me. Did I say I was giving it away?”

Kyuhyun’s breath hissed from between as he teeth, faced bowed into a frown that, had Zhou Mi been the errant strand, would would have had him obeying immediately. He pushed that thought away.

“You’re spending that much time for yourself? Siwon confessed with his. What will yours do?”

“Keep someone warm.”

Zhou Mi laughed. “Don’t be difficult, Kui Xian.”

“It will.”

“Will it also say “I love you” or “I like you?” Who’s it for?”

Kyuhyun made a noise of irritation, and Zhou Mi watched as his needle slipped into a loop. His head in the light blocked Kyuhyun’s sight of the yarn for a moment before Kyuhyun lifted his head with a bright smile.

“I got it! Mimi g…”

There was a muffled grunt as Zhou Mi leaned forward and kissed Kyuhyun, his head pressed back to the chair. Zhou Mi retreated. Kyuhyun blinked at him, red-faced, but with near flawless control.

“What was that for?”

“Oh, I thought when you said my name you meant it was for me…. I didn’t think I had to wait.”

“I found the stitch… And I was going to tell you to leave.”

“Ahh. Perfect then.” Unfazed, he toyed with the yarn between Kyuhyun’s fingers. “Perhaps I’ll have to make one.”

“Oh? Did you want to make one for someone, too?”

“Kyu…”

He looked up, prepared to be irritated and was instead a bit off balance when he caught sight of the smirk trying so hard to be innocent. And the barest hint of pink tongue coming out to dampen his lips.

“If this is mine, then where’s the yarn for yours?”

The color in Kyuhyun’s face only darkened as Zhou Mi reached into the bag beside the chair and pulled out a skein of blue yarn. Had he been hoping…?

“How much do you charge for knitting lessons, Kui Xian?”

Kyuhyun stared determinedly at his own hands.

“Can you afford it?”

“I have a few ideas…” He grinned. “Would you like to hear?”

He watched as Kyuhyun pulled a second set of needles from beside him, and, having silently handed them over, started the process of adding another row to Zhou Mi’s scarf.

A/N: Note how I ninja-d out of actually saying what color the scarf for Zhou Mi is? Informal poll time! What color/colors do YOU think the scarf would be? XD I could never pin it down myself…

And for the interested, the other in the series, Eeteuk and the Scarf of Many Colors (pairing… technically..? None? Ninja? Kangteuk.)
