it's funny, i hadn't actually seen the movie fight club until just now. i got it in my head that it would be a good movie to watch considering a few of the recent events and thoughts that have been going through my mind. and after seeing the movie, i really wonder if there aren't two of every single one of us running around, one living the boring ( Read more... )

I'm a big fan of Fight Club; saw the movie and it really made me think, then bought the book which is almost exactly the same but not quite. (the movie's remarkably close to the book, but I digress.) I honestly don't know how much I do or don't agree with the philosophies it expresses, some of them appeal to me and some of them really don't. but I know what you mean about the "you are not your job" one, I've had my own trouble thinking about that thanks to ACS. and I do think there's someone in pretty much all of us that wants to get the fuck out of our daily routines, whatever those are, because we know how much it sucks but we feel like there's too much keeping us in that routine to get out of it. gah.

the one part of Fight Club I will always disagree with, though, is the idea that we're all basically the same - the "you are the same decaying organic matter as everyone else." anything that denigrates our individuality is bullshit, and I'll go against that 'till the day I die.

My y'all have such pretty words, 'sisyphusian' and 'denigrates' are entirely new to me.

I, too, found the film uniquely engaging. I had to see it a couple times, though, to really get it because I kept squirming and trying not to pay attention to the violence and gore.
For many a year I think I have been sleeping, I do not know, yet, if I am awake, but I do believe I am finally stirring.

I think we should all join some sort of revolution, but not necessarily only the re-used footage kind.

wow again. I hadn't even thought of it that way. that makes a lot of sense - making people realize that, no matter what they think they are or what they have or what-have-you, we're all going to die... not a point of view that most people are willing to take on. I think I understand the philosophy now, thank you.

"I am enlightened." ::grin::
