Haunting is exactly what I was shooting for, so thank you for "getting it". I am very new at fic writing and have no idea what I'm doing most of the time. (Plus, when one's betas are dear friends, one is never sure they'll tell the truth.) Perhaps I have a career looming ominously in my future as a writer of apocafic?

Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

This bit is my favourite:
As night arrived and movement stilled, a pall of silence fell over the base like a heavy, smothering blanket. There was finally nothing left of immediacy to do. Some sought private places in which to weep bitter tears before falling into exhausted, dreamless oblivion. Others lay sleepless, pondering the hasty last words they longed to have uttered to loved ones who no longer existed. Either way, the new SGC was dark, grim, and reeked of survivor’s guilt.

Glad to have helped with the html-wrangling. Anytime!

You're my hero! I never would have gotten this posted without you. For that matter, I never would have tried writing if you hadn't "poked and prodded" me into it. I learned from the master! *humbly bowing to you*

Haunting is right. I particularly enjoyed the small details of how other people responded, it made it all feel so human.

Thank you for reading and commenting! Don't ask me where this came from. I almost feel like I can't take any credit for it because it sort of fell out from under my fingertips in a matter of minutes. Blame the great prompt! And perhaps darkfic suits my muse. :)

Oh, I was sooo not expecting that! Poor Jack - He's full of guilt because his family is intact and yet in the end it wasn't!! Wonderful fic, but now I must go hug some puppies or something... LOL!

LOL Hugging puppies is good...except when precipitated by reading somebody's fic, which causes an insecurity panic attack! However, that was the response I was seeking because 1) it's an apocafic and 2) I'm a tad evil. Glad it worked, though I do apologize for my sneaky tactics. ;) Thanks for the feedback, as I genuinely appreciate it! *hugs & pats soothingly*

Well, apparently I am late to the party, but I hope you don't mind - that is a great story! Great idea to start it, also. I admit I trust into the guys in Switzerland, that they know what they are doing, but it makes this whole thing very "real".

And I bet that there was survivors guilt.

But I love the last line. Because, even though there is all this grief, it shows to me that Jack will have something to live for, and is not alone. They both have a future.

Never too late for fic!

Oddly enough, they started the supercollider the day before my fic was posted. Up to that point, there were all sorts of doomsday predictions, which fueled my muse.

Thanks for your encouraging review! This is the only half-way decent thing I've ever written and it means a lot to me to know that you enjoyed it.
