Seattle housing bleg

I can't speak for living in Redmond/Bellevue vs. Seattle (I'm in Redmond/Bellevue, but I hate living in big cities so I never looked into living on the West side). What I can say though is this: living in Snoqualmie is not going to necessarily make the commute any easier; traffic around Microsoft tends to be a mess in any direction; as housing gets more expensive, people look eastward towards smaller cities between Snoqualmie and here (e.g., Duvall, Carnation), so traffic that way during 'rush hour' tends to have its own share of problems.

Living in Redmond might feel like suburban living, but living closer to downtown Bellevue might be a compromise; it's not as big as Seattle, but it's still a step up from suburbs.

That's interesting news about Snoqualmie - I'll definitely keep it under consideration. And yeah, I spent some time in downtown Bellevue when I was up there for the interview - it definitely didn't have the same vibe as downtown Seattle, but it's probably worth keeping an eye out for rentals around there.

Well, the thing about Bellevue is that it's a suburb/small town trying to be a real city. So if you want to live in a city, live in Seattle with Bellevue as a backup. It won't be as lively, but it'll be better than living in the real suburbs.
