Beautiful and sad and bittersweet. I've been enjoying your DC deathfics (silently, unfortunately) and finally am compelled to comment.

The tone fits perfectly. And I love how it's told through Alfred's eyes. In so few words, so much was told, arguably just as much (or more) than could be told with more words. The line about Alfred's heart still breaking when he looks in the rearview mirror is so sad and says a lot about his nature. And the contrast of the final two sentences is the ideal close.

Bravo, this is just heartbreakingly bittersweet. Your having told the tale from Alfred's POV just gives it so much power with his econonomy of words and verbalized helplessness. I believe that the final two lines in you fic

"It is at those accursed locations that Master Bruce will mourn two lives that were taken away too soon.

In the manor, as starlight turns to twilight, Alfred will mourn for a life never truly lived."

just summerized both the fic and Bruce's life.
