Laptop Battle Finals are this Friday! I'll be competing against seven formidable local musicians for the title (and gear, and finals in Seattle). It's friend vs. friend--most of these people I know from Tech CS or the other battles. My performance will involve a plucked string algorithm many times; and chuck, of course.
Friday, August 25, $5 at 9PM and change
Lenny's Bar (
307 Memorial Drive, Atlanta)
My fellow contestants (with music links!):
- Minky Boodle - pixivixen - is an artist, fellow accordionist, and makes delicious smoothies. She won Laptop Battle III with her organic and jazzy grooves.
- threv - is a master of sweet beats and clever mashes. Also patron of the electronic arts and a principal in nophi records! and runs a cool studio! His most recent band was The Secret Life.
- tricil - won Laptop Battle II by being way, way metal. downloadable EP (Also a Secret Life member.)
- merkatroid (on myspace) crafts melodic-psych beats. He maintains an "oddcast" of tracks on his site.
- recompas (his website, myspace) - Trav's tracks are the Venn intersection between abstract and hip-hop and chill.
- pH - maintains an air of mystery, but his beats at LBIII were harder than overclocked Space Invaders.
- Minidestroy has quite a range, from abstract political pieces to catchy glitch.
Matt Jeanes
zeroplate has been an excellent organizer and producer. He has been very approachable and communicative with participants, and has used suggestions and feedback to refine the event. He and his band
Larvae have donated their time and energy making the Laptop Battle in Atlanta a reality. They have surely advanced the cause of local electronic music.
Come rock out, call back, enjoy a tall one, and show microchip love!
