86mb text files take forever to open - even on a system with 4 quad core processors and 32gb of RAM.

About a second and a half with vi on my Athlon 4000+ with 2 GB.

Even windows users can use vi. Install Cygwin and you'll have Unixy goodness even on a windows host. It's free.

But I'm not likely to install it on my SQL servers. Since they run my business, I tend to avoid installing much of anyting on them other than the OS and MSSQL - hence using Notepad
