I am strongly considering taking the bus to and from work for a bit just to save on some gas money. I can get a monthly bus pass for $20 through work and now I just need to convince my husband that I won't get accosted walking from the bus stop to work ( Read more... )

You might get some response on albuquerque.

Personally, I would feel perfectly safe walking in the Coors & Central area any time during daylight. In the fall and winter, I might be less willing. I wouldn't do it during a rain storm.

Good luck! I've started doing this very same thing, my current goal is to bus or bike to work every day unless I have some pressing need for the car (something big I need to bring in, etc.) Gas is just way too expensive - and thankfully, I get a free bus pass from my work.

I'm very pro public transit! That's a fairly safe area. The only warning i'd have for you (having bussed for a good while on the well-traveled Central and Lomas routes between the U and downtown) is that the Abq bus system sucks ass. They're not at the stop remotely when they say they will be (a combination of early or late, depending on the day) so busing there does require some seriously advanced planning.
