This line:

This is really wonderfully done. It was hot, sweet, angsty, and gorgeous. I love that they each have to accept this part of each other that isn't easy, that they have to face both the imperfection of their match as well as the love behind it. I love the way Neal sexualizes their conflict

Love the dynamic here: "and Neal knew that Peter knew that Neal wasn't immune to that.... And that's what pissed Neal off the most."

and the part where the look on Peter's face reminds him of the look when Peter watches him sleep

So heartbreakingly sweet!

Peter has to let Neal go to get him back forever. Almost every fanfic that deals with Neal's anklet coming off is about his love for Peter (and El) letting him stay instead of leaving and seeing the world free from someone chasing him. He has to do it, he has to get free of anything to come back and live the life he choses, and he will come back to Peter, because it's his own decision.

So, I love your fanfic, because Peter understands although he is hurt but he gets it and his lovemaking wasn't angry or hateful, it was a good-bye and the knowledge that he only can get back what he lets free.
