Five for Friday, As In Happy? edition

May 29, 2009 06:14

As noted earlier in the week, this edition of Five for Friday is a belated commemoration of whiskeyson's birthday. As a devoted music maven, he lends himself to any number of rich topics perfect for a weekly exercise in tallying musical favorites. And yet, when I thought about his insightful commentary on Batman cover posts over the years (those thoughts ( Read more... )

Everybody loves Liza tho, right? firthofforth May 29 2009, 12:17:33 UTC
1. Ani DiFranco (must-have), "Little Plastic Castle."
I wish they could see us now/in leather bras and leather shorts
Like some ridiculous new team uniform/for some ridiculous new sport

2. Cher, Believe. I was once totally overwhelmed by this video at a gay dance club in the Castro District...between the Cher and the Madonna, broadcast on multiple large screens with synced up light strobes and shit- it was kind of like entering some never-before-discovered level in Dante's Hell. (musically)

3. ABBA, "Dancing Queen." or so I'm guessing. Thank goodness for Bjorn Again, keeping the music alive.

4. The Weather Girls, "It's Raining Men."

5. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, "Makeup (Wig in a box)." !!!! This song inspires loud singing EVERY time. And well, a) I can't sing, and b) the sentiment is about as far from 'me' as one could possibly get - and yet... magic is magic.

Well, I was holding back in the hope that whiskeyson would, uh, rise to the challenge first, but I'm about ready to explode, and Spidey is nowhere in sight to help, so ( ... )

1.MIGHTY REAL...Sylvester...if only I could explain: dancing with hundreds of bears to this song; hearing and feeling the raised dancefloor split in two; realizing,NO ONE stopped dancing

2.Music Is My Boyfriend...Hidden Cameras...almost anything from them could be on this list and they certainly have more explicit songs...it's my unofficial theme song

3.Over The Rainbow...Tiny Tim...for all the obvious reasons...and yet this is by far the most heartbreakingly REAL and HONEST version I have ever heard...another galaxy completly...

4.DIVINE...Anthony & The Johnsons...
"Well, he was the Mother of America,
my self determined Guru"...

"Did someone mention a rapture
Well I turn to think of you
Who walked the way with so much pain
Who holds the mirror up to fools

And I'll murder the ingrates
Who stand in our way!
And I'll swallow shit, laughing
On my bed of pain!

I hold your burning heart In my hands"

I do recall the shocking revelation of Chuck and Rufus, Bridget and the midget!, all the deception...what would the world be without a 12 chapter R. Kelly song?
