I love the calling them "pups" and its a novel idea. So I was with you until you said Sam was the alpha, and I just can't find that even remotely believable. That boys gotta "beta male" (hot, sweet beta male mind you) stamped on his forhead, and every single other aspect of everything that is Sam, for all the world to see- if there ever was such a thing as a beta male that character's designed to be the archetype for it. So I'm not sure how believable or connectable to the characters I'll find the second half which, up until then, I was really looking forward too.

This is fascinating. One of the most important issues in SPN is how the Winchesters kills what's not-human, to be precise, as Sam says in Bloodlust, what's Evil. Here, this rule is upturned, because they are not-human as well. I love the pack rules, the subtle ways in which you have made them/wrote them 'different', little touches here and there, it really works very well.
I disagree with the anonymous comment, in that I don't see Sam as a Beta male at all - he wouldn't have left John and Dean and gone on his way, otherways. Definitely an Alpha (and that's why he clashes against John so much, imo, since John is def an Alpha too). Not saying that Dean couldn't be an alpha, but it's not his first instict, imo.
*goes to read part 2*
thanks :)

obviously i agree with you on the alpha/beta dynamic between the three of them, or else i wouldn't have written this the way i did. :)

but i've always thought that one of the main reasons john and sam clash *so* much and *so* hard is that they ARE too much alike. not that dean's going to roll over and show the world his belly, but for john and for sam? absolutely.

ANYWAY! thanks so much for the comment, and i hope you enjoy the second part, too. :)

John=Sam, absolutely. Dean is so much Mary's son, in so many ways, imo (and once again kudos to the casting people at SPN, because they did a great job)...and yes, about Dean and showing his belly. I loved your line in the second part about that :D

Enjoyed both parts, and pimped in my LJ :)
thank you!
(wouldn't mind reading more about the Werechester..Winwolves? About the pack and John as Alpha male, and Dean and Sam running in a pack of their own...hope you feel inspired, but in any case, thank you :) it's a great 'verse to think about :D)

*howls happily*

I do think John and Sam are more "alpha" types, and that's in part due to their stubborness and their innately more selfish personalities. Dean may be a beta to his *family*, but it's as much choice as nature. He loves them, wants them to be happy, and wants to please them. And we can't underestimate the damage that losing his mother and the stability of his world at such a young age did him, in canon *or* fanon. Sam, at least, has always had John and Dean (who functions both as brother *and* mother for him).

I think what disturbs people is the identification of beta and "bottom" with weakness, as happens so often. It's not the same thing.

Looking forward to the next part.

that's exactly how i feel about it; dean *can* lead but he can also *choose* not to, which he often does. i think a lot of people don't make that distinction, but it's an important one.
