wow, thank you so much. it *is* like death in a way, being separated from a loved one. even a pesky little brother (not that i, as the baby of my own family, would know, but i'm guessing :D).

Empty-handed. That may just sum up most of Dean's sad and lonely life. He's so wounded and simply doesn't know how to heal.
