You'll be pleased to know Peter Jackson is ALREADY working on the THREE HOUR expanded DVD cut of Hobbit! The Unending Journey!
Haven't read any Tolkien DON'T JUDGE ME I TRIED THE HOBBIT 3X IN MY YOUTH AND DOZED OFF EARLY, so I'm neither here nor there on Jackson's Tolkien-authenticity, but Hobbit struck me as 40 minutes of dinner sitcom followed by 400 minutes of Sweeping Landscapes! Long Conversations With and/or About People who Don't Really Figure Into the Plot! Gigantic CG Battles where Our Heroes Eventually Get Cornered until Something Ex Machina Saves Them! Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
FrCh & I liked Beasts of S. Wild much better (wasn't Quvenzhane Wallis AMAZING?), but yeah, that shakycam was Very Shaky Indeed, and grainy as well. IIRC they shot the picture in 16mm, lord knows why.
