SPN (New): The Cat Came Back (gen, post-ep for 516)

Apr 03, 2010 11:08

So, I got inspired to write this.

Rating: Teen for language
Spoilers: through 5x16, "Dark Side of the Moon"
Summary: It's not something you can tell anyone, after all. It's not something to be proud of, even. For Roy and Walt, it was just a job, like any other.

Story is also archived here on AO3.

You run, of course. )

This was so cool. So far I've seen a lot of codas to this episode but nothing like this. Great job, thanks!

I figure the show itself gives us enough followthrough on the boys' state of mind: I wanted to know what happened to Walt and Roy when they found out they'd wasted their efforts.

Oh, nice. I was wondering what happened to those two, and I love your take on it.

I can't help but think that Dean leaving Roy alive was as much a punishment as a mercy, given what Dean knows about what it's like to lose your partner/brother/cousin.

Oh, I think you're probably right about that.

I'm glad I didn't read any other stories before I wrote this, since it turns out there's another one about Walt & Roy posted just ahead of mine on SPN_gen. Woops!

Nice and chilling!

I think everyone else is running around having Team Free Will group hug and making sure Sam fishes the amulet out of the wastebasket.

Which I think are perfectly understandable knee-jerk reactions, but why waste all that nice jaw-clenching work JA did there in the opening scene? There was a lot of wrath there, and I like the idea that karma's a bitch and Dean is watching.

Thank you!

I tend to think that Dean wasn't actually looking for those guys, but he wasn't going to pass on an opportunity to make a point when he had one. Frankly, he's got way too much on his plate to waste time on those yahoos.

Wow, I'm glad you pointed out you had posted something this morning, because I almost missed this. (Although I did have to backtrack for it, because your link goes to DW, where I do not travel.) I love this a lot, because it says a couple interesting things about Dean: that he isn't really a killer of humans, no matter how much he has tried to live in the black and white of good and evil (dude, I think he even has sympathy with their point of view); and that he has to understand that Roy is going to suffer much more with the grief than he would if Dean ended him right there. And I also always love to read the POV of the secondary characters. These guys are just hunters, trying to do what's right. This really hit the spot.

I'm very glad you liked it! And yeah, I don't see Dean as murderer if he can avoid it.

I'm sorry I forgot to link to LJ too: do you also not travel to AO3?

I do travel to AO3! But since I appear to be totally unable to remember my password there, I often travel out again without commenting, and I wanted to comment to you. So I just checked back to see if it was here. *g*
