What a fantastic read. And I love that Coyote has a, er, hard-on for Dean, so to speak, because that totally makes sense, and fits with the Trickster in Tall Tales liking him, too.

Coyote sees a lot of himself in Dean. *g*

I'm very glad you liked it!

any plans to post this in a pdf file for those who might want to read offline?

I don't usually post PDFs, but I'm planning to put it up in one html page on my site. Maybe tomorrow night, if I find the time--my site is overdue for an update...

Thank you for a truly excellent story! I really liked the stuff about Dean's bindings in this section, and I'm kind of shipping Coyote/Dean just a little bit (if only to picture Sam's reaction).

And you're a terrific writer -- I really need to go back and look at some of your other stories, since this is the first that I've read (oh cool -- you've written a Gordon story!).

Oh, I think Dean would completely freak out at that. He's experimental only up to a point, I suspect. And bestiality, combined with homosexuality? Would pretty much cross the line for him. But I'm sure Coyote would be fine with it! *g*

(Speaking of Dean's sexuality, if you haven't read it, I highly recommend untrue_accounts' Spider Bites on All Your Lovers, which is Dean/Crossroads Demon, hot as hell and very very insightful, as well as brilliantly written. NSFW under any circumstances.)

My own read on Dean is pretty similar -- "experimental only up to a point" -- though I've read some slash fics that make compelling and plausible counterarguments.

But I would totally read a story where Dean has to somehow string Coyote along for some reason (e.g., to save Sam from something) -- lead him on, essentially -- while struggling to resist Coyote's physical advances (refusing to "put out" unless/until Coyote romances him & shows Dean that Coyote respects and cares about him and is interested in Dean for more than just sex). All the while acting like he's not completely freaked out. (I have a weakness for tricking-the-trickster stories!)

I'll check out Spider Bites -- Dean definitely has a certain sexual tropism for crossroads demons!

Um, which is to say, "Thank you!" And this is by far my longest SPN story. You can find other stuff on my website (which needs updating), or by clicking "spn-fic" on my tags. There's a fair number of snippets that didn't make it to the website (yet)...

Read it, liked it, found it thought-provoking, have actual life getting in the way of my writing-about-reading time this morning (rrgh, what the hell is up with that?)

In lieu of lengthier remarks, have you read Luthin's Surviving Through the Days?

Glad you liked it!

And no, is it a novel?

Mm, no it's an anthology of Native stories, with a lot of southern CA material. I'm remembering some good Lizard stories from the Mojave. But it's been a couple of years since I've read it. UC Press, big fat thing.

This is *awesome*. Fantastic casefile, great OCs, and such great attention to detail and fleshing out of people and places. And I love the choices you made--Coyote offering to get Dean out of the deal and Dean not taking it, how Dean ended up taking the spell book after all, how everything went down in Beth's office. It kept the story honest and real.

Coyote was definitely my favorite of the OCs, even though we didn't have as much time with him; that was some fabulous character building.

It kept the story honest and real.

Yay! (Oh, the hazards of watching a show and going, "It wouldn't happen that way!" Oh, the joys of writing a story where you can get it right, with no 42-minute constraint.)

I'm glad you liked Coyote: he came to me fully-fleshed, if you will. *g*

Thanks so much!
