More news on the IP field: proposed legislation would criminalize attempted copyright infringement. Well, that's sweeping. Oh, Fanlib...

I've been running Miranda as my chat client lately, and not much liking it; Lifehacker points out that their favorite multi-app client is Pidgin, AKA Gaim. Note to self: check this out ( Read more... )

GAIM rocks. I switched from Miranda and haven't looked back -- the pop-up mail alerts are much better, you can actually customize your away messages, and new chats all pop up in the same tabbed window. Nice.

I think I went to Miranda because when LJ introduced chat, Gaim didn't support Jabber. But now it looks like that's changed. I don't much like Miranda, though. So I'll check out Pidgin. (Apparently Gaim got into trouble for the name and had to change it.)

My slightly older Gaim (version2.0 beta, I think?) already supports Jabber without problem. I use it under linux though.

And seriously, just when I thought the copyright things couldn't get any worse since they are already at the raving lunatic stage, it gets more bizarre again.

Gaim's supported Jabber for years - by Feb 2001. (See changelog.) I wonder what the confusion was?

It helps to know that the trouble was reasonable, for once, on AOL's part. Gaim started out as *only* for AIM. It's turned into this really great open source project, but they've been in legal troubles with the name almost since the beginning.

I'm holding off a bit, maybe two increments down the road until I try again. But eventually Gaim will be my program.

She's Laura Harris and it turns out she played Daisy Adair on Dead Like Me.

The Canadian actor pool strikes again! I recognized her right away, and spent the rest of the episode lamenting the lines she had to say. *sigh*

I'm using Trillian as a chat client and am quite happy with it, but you have to upgrade to the paid Pro version to use Jabber with it.

I downloaded Pidgen last night and it seems to work well. I already like it better than Miranda, which required a lot of fiddling.
