At least your director talks to you! Wow and wow. Our director likes to take the upper management staff to (what seems like) monthly retreats. She doesn't really like to talk to the "lower support staff" and doesn't like to give any info about anything. The peons hear rumors and then she gets angry. Ugh.
I'd be shocked if she realized that Tuesday WAS national library workers day.
Here's an uplifting thing our director said to my staff "Well, you're getting a paycheck aren't you?"
Yow. I may make fun of her but I'm actually quite in awe of our LD, and I know we're lucky to have her. Sounds like you guys got a lemon in that dept, what a bummer. I know ours used to be on the front lines as a clerk, which may have something to do with it.
I was lucky in my school job as well, where the principal was wonderfully supportive. Admin is so important in these jobs.
I wish I knew what good admin was like! I'm excited to hear about your meetings. Ours usually start with the diatribe from teh LD and ends in silence, scattered tears (it's definitely not a happy cry!) and gads of eye rolling from staff.
